Barack Obama Eats Vegetarian With India Prime Minister

President Barack Obama has traveled to India to address parliament members on making the nation a permanent member of the U.N.
While he is there, Obama is getting the opportunity to partake in some of the nation’s cultural practices. Prime Minster Manmohan Singh has already served a completely vegetarian dinner to the president of the United States in his home in New Delhi.
Film maker Danny Boyle once said India was “vegetarian nation” and statistics compiled by government groups and other organizations back his description.
A 2006 Hindu-CNN-IBN State of the Nation Survey found that 31% of Indians considered themselves vegetarian, while other surveys have estimated 20-42% being vegetarian.
In India, vegetarian often means “lacto-vegetarian,” although some Indians consume eggs as well. Restaurants clearly state that they offer “vegetarian,” “non-vegetarian,” or “pure-vegetarian,” which is the same as lacto-vegetarian.
India has conveniently designed a picture system to distinguish vegetarian from non-vegetarian items, which applies to food and even medicine. Products made with only vegetarian ingredients will have a green dot on them, while those with non-vegetarian ingredients will have a brown dot on the package.
