Ozzy Osbourne Mostly Vegetarian–Bats, Doves Can Rest Easy
Written by Vegetarian Star on June 8th, 2010 in Food & Drink, Male Singers.
Ozzy Osbourne has a disgusting history with animals (biting off doves’ and bats’ heads, throwing meat at the crowd) during his performance history, but thanks to a little movie called Food Inc., these days he’s more into biting the heads of lettuce. Not that he’s doing this for animal rights reasons, which you’ll learn.
The Prince of Darkness told the Times Online he’s mostly vegetarian, and thinks the way meat is raised today is enough to turn people away from eating it.
“It’s my new phase: brown rice and vegetables. I don’t even drink milk, apart from a splash in my tea. It ain’t because of the animals. I mean, I used to work in a slaughterhouse. You won’t see me marching over the frozen tundra, hunting down people who club seals. I just can’t digest meat any more. ”
“I also saw that Food, Inc film the other day, which gives you a new perspective — not just on meat-eating, but on the whole animal-product industry. I mean, think of the entire population of the US, which is, what, 309m? Say 80m of them eat an egg every day: that’s a lot of eggs to squeeze out of a lot of chickens. And the way they do it at these megafarms is enough to put you off breakfast for life.”
“Not that I’m into any of that organic bollocks. People think they’re buying another day on this Earth, so they get ripped off. If you want organic, grow your own, that’s what I say. I used to do that when I was married to my ex and we had a little cottage in Ranton, Staffordshire.”
More on how Ozzy kept some other, ahem, “plant based items” hidden in his gardens at the Times Online.
