MoMA Celebrates The Marina Abramovic: The Artist Is Present Exhibition

Performing artist Marina Abramovic recently gave one of her most grueling exhibits, although she did nothing but sit in a chair all day–for over a month!

Abramovic took part in “Marina Abramovic: The Artist is Present” exhibition at the New York Museum of Modern Art every day the museum was open for the exhibit, a performance she described to the Wall Street Journal as leaving her “completely destroyed.”

To prepare herself for the routine, Abramovic said she went vegetarian and drank a lot of water.

“First of all, six months before I start preparing myself. It is like going to the war. It has been so much strictness in my life. I stopped eating meat. I have become vegetarian. I train myself to only take liquids in the night so I will not take any liquids during the day. I will take a liquid every 45 minutes during the night. I take the liquid, go to sleep. Wake up. I take the liquid, go to sleep. My last glass of water I take at 8:00 in the morning and then not anymore.”

To celebrate the exhibit’s conclusion, Abramovic attended a dinner hosted by the sponsor, LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton, wearing a dress designed by LVMH Givenchy employee Ricardo Tischi, who crafted the piece to be worn with a jacket made from 101 snakes. The snakes supposedly died from natural causes.

Thank goodness. We hope that story’s more truthful than what came from the mouth of that snake back in Eden.
