Miss DC Bindhu Pamarthi Bringing Cruelty-Free Message To Miss America

Bindhu Pamarthi, the 2013 reigning Miss District of Columbia, is hoping to spread the message of cruelty-free cosmetics at this year’s Miss America pageant.
Pamarthi signed the The Humane Society of the United States’ Be Cruelty-Free pledge that urges consumers of cosmetics and other beauty products to use only those not tested on animals and to encourage the end of animal tested cosmetics in the U.S.
Each year, contestants use the pageant for a platform to bring awareness to issues they are passionate about.
Pamarthi would like to use her position to teach everyone involved with the pageant and its fans about the importance of choosing products that do not harm animals.
She said: “I don’t believe that animals should suffer for the sake of physical beauty. I want to work with the industry from the inside and leave a cruelty-free legacy with the Miss America Pageant.”
Pamarthi will compete for the title of 2014 Miss America on September 15 in Atlantic City, NJ.
