“Good Morning America” Lead In Lipstick Investigation

Good Morning America ran a feature earlier this month on lead in lipstick.
As a vegetarian or vegan, you’re always on the lookout for products containing animal ingredients or that are tested on animals, but were you aware there may be several potentially harmful chemicals found even in natural, organic and vegan products?
Good Morning America’s test of 22 popular brands found about half of them to contain lead, an ingredient that’s not currently regulated for cosmetics by the federal government in the U.S.
“The industry creates its own standards and they have been abiding by them pretty regularly,” Roy Lamothe, UL’s general manager, North America, told GMA.
And while the FDA considers small amounts of the chemical safe for adults, the Centers for Disease Control says there is no safe level for a child, so lead-free lipstick may be a bigger priority for pregnant women or those with children in the household.
When searching for the perfect lipshade for your next big night out, try a brand that’s known for being vegan and lead-free, such as Gabriel Cosmetic‘s Zuzu Luxe line.
Vegan, gluten-free, lead-free, synthetic paraben free and derived from natural ingredients, Gabriel’s Cosmetics are a favorite among many celebrities, including the vegan and eco-friendly actress Alicia Silverstone who is a fan of the brand’s bath products.
