Blair River "Heart Attack Grill"

Blair River, the spokesman for Heart Attack Grill, a restaurant known for its unhealthy, super-sized fatty meals like the Quadruple Bypass Burger and Flatliner Fries, has died at the age of 29.

Besides promoting dishes with names to match the medical conditions one might develop if they ate there regularly, Heart Attack Grill offered anyone who weighed over 350 pounds free food.

Some are pointing a finger to flu or pneumonia as the reason for River’s death.

According to some experts, his weight–575 pounds–may have played a factor in him succumbing to the virus. Yes, along with high blood pressure and heart disease, washing down fries cooked in pure lard with the butterfat shake may prevent some from fighting off what simply throws everyone else in bed for a week or two.

LivWise Olivia Newton-John

But Olivia has entered the cookbook world now. And just because she isn’t eating 100% vegetarian doesn’t mean she’s forgotten how to cook it. Her book, Livwise, set for release in May, is very vegetarian friendly.

Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn

“If you start to use the v-word, people get nervous. Somehow, there’s a feeling from years ago that vegans are strange. There are so many negative connotations. There’s so much more to talk about apart from a word. It’s about nutrition and improving your health.”

Dr. Caldwell Essestyn, cardiologist and author of Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease, who saw a trend in the cholesterol levels of his patients who adopted a plant-based diet. Esselstyn recently attended a screening of Forks Over Knives, a film which examines the claim that major diseases that prematurely claim so many lives each year are caused by diet, particularly one heavy in animal products.

Esselstyn is a vegan, but told  CNN’s Eatocracy the film’s creators tried to leave it out of the film as much as possible.

Because it’s not about the “V” word. It’s about the “P” word. Go plant power!

Jamie Oliver On Lamb Killing–More People Would Go Vegetarian

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, March 3rd, 2011 in Animal Issues, Chefs, Food & Drink.

Jamie Oliver

Jamie Oliver sparked controversy when he killed a lamb on television a few years ago. Part of the reason animal activists were so disturbed was because the animal had not been stunned before its throat was slit.

In hindsight, Oliver said he would never perform such an act again. But if every meat eater did that, there might be less of them.

From his interview with LA Times:

“I’ve probably ordered about 10,000 in my career. When you’re there in the village, and it’s their normal tradition, I actually felt quite shallow if I didn’t do it. Did I like it? No, it was bloody horrible. Will I do it again? Probably not.”
