Comments Off on Alicia Silverstone Cooks Thingys NYC Food And Wine Festival 2009
Alicia Silverstone was at the 2009 New York City Food and Wine Festival on Saturday to demonstrate cooking vegan recipes from her vegan diet and lifestyle book, The Kind Diet, which is set for release by Rodale Publishing on October 13 2009.
Alicia chose to cook a fried seitan pasta dish, Caesar salad, and cheesecake-all made without animal ingredients.
Throughout the demonstration, she referred to items as “thingys” and “yummy” and “yucky.”
Two assistants (who hopefully were “rewarded” with treats afterwards) helped Alicia as she showed the dishes in various moments of preparation and took questions from the audience.
Can’t wait to buy the book and make some of those yummy thingys.
Comments Off on Jason Mraz Gratitude Concert Began With Mystery Vegan Food Bowl
Jason Mraz is set to give his gratitude concert tomorrow October 11 in San Diego, a chance to thank his fans by selling tickets for as little as $1 and spotlight several local charities.
“On the menu they had a `gratitude bowl,’ a food item where you didn’t know what you would get and you could pay 50 cents, $50 or whatever you wanted,” Mraz said. “It was a way to practice generosity and humility, and get a big, hearty bowl of food.”
Mraz’s concert tomorrow was created based on the same theme of giving.
“So, I thought this would be a great way to end the tour and have a ‘gratitude bowl’ (for tickets), where people can pay nothing or as much as they want. People can come out to the venue early with their families and, if they want, check out the local charities we’re working with.”
As expected, the show at the Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre tomorrow is already sold out.
Comments Off on Pamela Anderson INK “Feed Your Soul” PETA Benefit Dinner
A night of vegan food, fashion and animal rights will take place in Toronto on Thursday October 22.
The party begins with a vegan dinner at the Ultra nightclub at 5 PM, INK Entertainment’s Feed Your Soul, which benefits the animal rights group, People For The Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA)
The dinner will feature vegan dishes by Chef Chris Zielinksi and be hosted by Pamela Anderson and PETA’s senior vice president Dan Matthews, along with designer Richie Rich.
After the dinner, Rich will showcase his fashion label with Pamela Anderson, A*Muse, at the This is Londonnightclub.
As PETA’s number one pin up girl, it’s no surprise Pamela sought the opportunity to benefit the animal rights organization during the tour to promote the eco friendly clothing line, which consists of hoodies and zip ups, casual dresses, and beachwear.
Pamela’s tour will take place in major cities in North America, Asia, and Europe.
Tickets to the PETA benefit dinner are $100 and can be purchased by calling Ultra at 416.263.0330.
Randy Randall and Dean Allen Spunt of No Age have collaborated with Emerica‘s Ed Templeton to create a vegan skateboarding shoe.
Since all three guys were both vegan and skateboarding fanatics, they made sure the shoes were “entirely organic and synthetic materials, but designed to weather the abuse of skateboarding,” says subpop.com.

“I think the challenge to all of us is that we have to be better. Vegetarian chefs are like the Ginger Rogers to the omnivore chef’s Fred Astaire: Our job is harder because we have to do everything they do, only backwards and in high heels. We have to work twice as hard for half the respect. Despite this, we desperately need to engage with the mainstream food world, because it’s not enough to preach to the choir anymore. Chefs and owners, myself included, need to step up our game. We need to become the 4.0 GPA overachievers of food.”
