Ever wonder what the best snacks to eat before and after a long run are if you’re a vegan who’s interested in maximum performance? Look no further than to triathlete Brendan Brazier. Brazier is the author of Thrive Diet and soon to be released Whole Foods to Thrive: Nutrient-Dense, Plant-Based Recipes for Peak Health.
He also created VEGA, a line of whole food, vegan nutritional shakes, bars and other supplements which happen to fall under his pre-workout food suggestions.
“Pre-run, it’s about getting the body the reserve energy it’ll need to sustain the run,” Brazier said. “Half a banana and a few dates, almond milk mixed together with a scoop of the Vega Sport Optimizer or some pseudo-grains, like quinoa, mixed with fruits and almonds are a good energy boost.”
Social Distortion’s Mike Ness once said in an interview there were so many parts of him other than his music side people weren’t familiar with, including his spiritualism and vegetarianism. Ness just got more public with one of those sides in a new pro-vegetarian ad for Peta2.
Australian actress Pippa Black has been involved with several vegetarian causes. The Outsourced star was the voice behind a character in Tegan the Vegan, an animated short film about a girl teased for her diet choice. She’s also recorded a PSA for PETA protesting factory farms.
Black was only six years old when she learned the family’s pork chops were the only item on the plate that didn’t grow from a tree or out of the ground.

Alicia Silverstone and her husband Christopher Jarecki are now parents of a baby boy the couple named Bear Blu Jarecki. When he gets older, this bear may choose not to eat honey though, because his parents have been proud vegans for years.
