Natalie Portman

Just because Natalie Portman is and has been a longtime vegetarian, doesn’t mean her child will automatically enjoy dining at a restaurant that serves such food.

The actress was spotted at Flore Vegan in Silverlake, California with one-year old son Aleph, who was not happy with mom’s choice and would not stop crying.

That’s too bad, considering Flore Vegan even has a complete child’s menu, featuring a burrito with black beans, cashew cheese and avocado; Tofu Egg Salad Sandwich; Cashew Cheese Quesadilla; and variety of veggie burgers including Portobello Seitan.

Any of these dishes wash down well with “Babycino,” a steamed soy milk beverage.

“Dear Prudence” Slams Grandma’s Beef With Vegans

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, May 28th, 2012 in Children, Food & Drink.

What advice would you give to an overly concerned grandmother who, against mom’s wishes, feeds her grandchild a Happy Meal and thinks tofu over ground beef is cause for a call to the Child Protection authorities?

“Dear Prudence”, a regular feature at Slate, is suggesting granny take her Centrum Silver and any other supplements that help the elderly think because “lack of ham and Swiss doesn’t rise to the same level of concern as beating and molestation” and “probably half the children in Berkeley, Calif. would be removed from their homes if this constituted child abuse.”

Christine Taylor

Christine Taylor and Ben Stiller are trying to raise their children on a plant-based diet, but Taylor admits it’s a little harder once they’ve been introduced to animal products.

“We have friends that are vegan and their kids came out vegan,” Taylor told People. “I’m so jealous that they had the information and they started the kids early because now to go back, it’s a little harder.”

The information on raising healthy, vegan kids is available from dozens of reputable sources, including Lisa Dorfman, board certified sports dietitian, registered dietitian, licensed mental health counselor, director of the Masters in Nutrition for Health & Human Performance Program in the Department of Kinesiology & Sport Sciences at University of Miami, and author of four books on nutrition including the The Vegetarian Sports Nutrition Guide.
