Ellen DeGeneres‘ next book Seriously I’m Kidding is scheduled for release in October. Ellen has never shied away from discussing the events that led to her veganism, so it’s a good guess she’ll touch on her lifestyle in this book too.

Even better for her vegan fans, Ellen may be releasing a cookbook in the future.

Jonathan Safran Foer sat down with A.V. Club to discuss all the things he’s considered an expert on–food, vegetarianism, farming and animal welfare.

The author of Eating Animals did a great job of touching on many questions that arise when the idea of eating vegetarian is brought up, including the price of food, humane labels and why your family that lives in a town of 500 people still declares World War III when you refuse to eat turkey at Thanksgiving.

On that meat eater defensiveness:
The reason people have such strong opinions about it is, we can’t help but think that our response to these questions has something to do with what kind of a person we are. I think it’s because whatever conclusions you reach—and I think there are lots of different respectable conclusions one can reach—everyone recognizes that this is a big deal. It matters.

Food fights may not have been common in your school cafeteria.

Definitely not in the choir room.

On the premiere of Glee, Lea Michele‘s character Rachael Berry gets blasted with a heap of spaghetti.

According to Rumor Fix, extras on the set were given spaghetti and meatballs and salad to throw at the cast, but Michele insisted firmly she only be hit with noodles, proving once again that real meat isn’t necessary for that Hollywood special effect.

Emily Deschanel has brought a vegan baby into the world.

She and husband David Hornsby welcomed their first child earlier this month.

Is maintaining a vegan pregnancy as hard as maintaining your composure during painful contractions?

Deschanel told Fit Pregnancy, “I don’t think it’s any more challenging for me than for anyone else.”

“The real challenge for a vegan is getting vitamin B12 and omega-3s, but you can get those in a vegetarian supplement.”
