"Meat is for Pussies" John Joseph

"Meat is for Pussies" John Joseph

John Joseph, author of the famous or notorious, depending on who you speak with, book about vegan diets, “Meat Is For Pussies,” has an exclusive interview at Ecorazzi.

For those that are still offended by the title, Joseph doesn’t care. And watch out. His fan base consists of both angels and inmates who agree the message is right on target.

“Get a sense of humor! Lighten up! The book is reaching everyone from Hells Angels to convicts in maximum security prisons to New York City cops — people they’d never reach. I really don’t give a shit about the people who are offended; they attacked Rory Freedman, too. But her Skinny Bitch books made millions of vegans and saved countless animals. I’ve been doing this for 30 years; the Cro-Mags have inspired tens of thousands of people to give up meat. I will never change who I am. As they say in India, “The dogs may bark, but the caravan must go on.””

More non-pussy talk about protein needs, organic vs. GMO foods and more at Ecorazzi.

Like many men, Steve-O has an interest in breasts.

He recently told Vanity Fair how he really feels about those pink ribbons going around during the month of October for Breast Cancer Awareness.

“Let me tell you how I feel about these pink ribbons. I was watching the N.F.L. last week, and all the players were wearing pink. I don’t think they did anything to educate people about cancer prevention. I don’t think a pink ribbon does anything. What people need to know is that it’s the atrocious diet of Americans that’s responsible for all your cancer, all your heart disease, all your diabetes.”

Natalie Portman was once an eco-conscious teen doing a better dance than that Miley/Hannah character could ever pull off.

Attendees at the Environmental Media Awards were presented with a video of a very young Portman as a background diva singing along to “Recycle it, Renew it, Redo it, Reuse it, Yea yea yea!”

Seems the vegan who transitioned from vegetarian because of Jonathan Safran Foer‘s book, Eating Animals, was destined to be an advocate of the green life.

The actress was reported to have both “grinned” and “cringed” at having old memories brought up that aren’t nearly as bad as the old birthday party clips your mother has lying around.

Organic food was served and compostable dinnerware was use at the ceremony meant to highlight people and productions drawing attention to environmental causes.

The Washington State Department of Ecology has a brief, easy read of recycling facts for kids after the video above gets their attention. No doubt, many adults could stand to read up on some of these facts too, especially considering they are the bottle water bandits of present time.

Brian May will be honored by the International Fund for Animal Welfare at London’s House of Lords on Tuesday, October 19, for his work with animal rights, particularly the “Save Me” campaign he launched earlier this year to urge voters not to support politicians in the UK who were interested in repealing the laws against hunting certain animals.

“To provide staying power, the optimal carbohydrate to protein ratio immediately before a longer workout or race is about three parts carbohydrate to one part protein,” he told NJ.com. “I like to have half of a banana, a couple of dates and a Vega bar before a long-distance workout. I’ll also make an energy gel to eat if I start to feel hungry or weak during a workout

“Jackass 3D” Trailer And How Animal Stunts Were Monitored (Video)

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, October 15th, 2010 in Animal Issues, Film & TV, Videos.

Jackass 3D

Jackass 3D

Steve-O, one of the stars of Jackass 3D, is a vegan, but that doesn’t stop him from participating in some wild, gross and bizarre stunts involving animals in his films, Jackass 3D included.

The American Humane Association monitored scenes involving animals to ensure no creatures (at least 4-legged) were hurt, which included everything from dangerous bull charging to a pig eating an apple from a man’s rear end. The AHA website lists how every scene was monitored for Jackass 3D. Here are a few interesting points.

  • Bees–Although hundreds were shown, only a handful were used and the rest were computer generated.
  • Snakes–Real snakes were filmed in bins that were “checked for hazards beforehand,” to give shots of the animals slithering around for various scenes, but when it came time for the crew member to fall into the pit, he landed on rubber serpents.

Unfortunately, all usually never ends well when animals are used in films, so it would interesting to learn where the animals ended up after filming was over. Are they off to be “stars” in another movie? Will they retire in sanctuaries or be destined for slaughter?

The trailer for Jackass 3D below.

The Vegan Revolution With Zombies book has a trailer which depicts the brain-dead carnivorous humans taking a saunter through town, looking like a cross between horror flick stars and drunken party goers.

A hilarious peek into the nature of the book about an attempt to make meat from painless animal slaughter, the trailer touches on the concept of freeganism, when someone eats food they normally wouldn’t buy, but accept if given to them or found somewhere still edible. Apparently, it’s not a cool topic, as the freegan victim in the video is shown no mercy even after protesting, “I don’t pay for it, I’m a freegan, man.”

The first four months of sales of Vegan Revolution will benefit Try Vegan PDX, a non-profit outreach group in Portland founded by author David Agranoff, offering resources, support and much needed advice for those interested in going vegan.
