Runners World Cover

The vegetarian or vegan athlete isn’t the rarest species, but it sure is great to see one featured in a prominent recreational magazine read by thousands of running enthisiasts around the world.

Runner’s World, a publication of Rodale Press, has featured an interview with Jeffrey Eggleston, a seasoned marathoner who’s been chosen to run for the U.S. this summer at the World Championships in Daegu, South Korea.

Gene Baur

This year, the hottest group on tour doesn’t even have a lead singer or guitarist, but they sure are making noise.

Farm Sanctuary’s co-founder Gene Baur is traveling across the United States in an iconic van like the one he started the sanctuary in back in 1986 when he sold veggie hot dogs form it.

Through photos, videos, recipes and more, Baur will look at the history of the vegan movement and hopefully pick up a few groupies looking to joining the lifestyle.

Time magazine recently interviewed Baur about the Farm Sanctuary “Just Eats” tour, the sanctuary’s accomplishments over the past quarter decade and its goals for 2012.

Sophia Bush

Sophia Bush has been doing her homework on the veg diet–mainly through assignments of reading Alicia Silverstone‘s vegan diet, lifestyle and cookbook, The Kind Diet.

She hasn’t quite made the transition yet, but she’s sure that day is coming.

“I don’t eat a lot of it any more but a little… I’m sure that in this transition eventually I won’t eat any meat at all,” Bush said.

Steve said he supports the film because it advocates the same lifestyle he does.

Meatless Mouthful–Lea Michele Wants Chimps Retired

“Cammy, one of the 14 chimpanzees moved to this Texas lab, was taken from her mom the day she was born. She was first traumatically sedated with powerful chemicals when she was six months old… Cammy and her 13 companions have been infected with hepatitis C and subjected to liver biopsies and many other traumatic procedures.”

Lea Michele, in a letter written to the National Institutes of Health on several chimpanzees subjected to invasive research in medical laboratories. The chimps were nearly retired in 2001 before officials decided to move them back into laboratories. Several celebrities have urged for the chimps retirement, including Emily Deschanel and Ricky Gervais.
