David Duchovny, Matthew McCaunaghey, Olsen Twins Eat A Voltre Sante

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, May 20th, 2009 in Actors, Actresses.

**UK AND USA USE ONLY** David Duchovny on the red carpet prior to the 15th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards, held at the Shrine AuditoriumWow! Several big celebrities were spotted eating at vegan friendly A Voltre Sante restaurant recently, including David Duchovny, Matthew McConaughey, and Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.

Rumor has it David used to be a vegan and his now separated from wife Tea Leoni was too. But we’re quite surprised and pleased to learn Matthew and the Olsen twins made their way there as well.

Now, vegan friendly doesn’t mean completely vegan. But to hear the spokesperson for the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association and the most infamous fur wearing twins at least stopping by to dine with the granola lovin’ seitan worshippers is a breath of fresh air.

Pat Neshek Answers To Wife, Not Manager, About Vegan Diet

We’ve covered so much veggie athlete news lately, we’re on a roll and should head to Vegas!

Minnesota Twins relief pitcher Pat Neshek recently spoke with the Minneapolis Star Tribune where he revealed he’s “willing to take the heat” for his veganism.

“I get that all the time,” Neshek said. “Like Gardy [manager Ron Gardenhire], he’ll make fun of me and stick a hot dog in my face and say, “You want to eat this?” A lot of guys are curious. Most of the time, there’s a lot of guys that make fun of you.”

No problem for Neshek, as he knows he’s putting the good stuff down that ultimately will make his game better.

Besides, who cares about the guys? He’s got a woman at home to answer to.

When he first met his wife, he was heading for a McDonald’s and the future Mrs. Neshek said, “I can’t believe you eat that stuff!” This comment, along with reading The China Study, which links a meat based diet to diseases, prompted Neshek to work on his steakouts as much as his strikeouts.

Five years later, the Mrs. Neshek is still helping Pat with his veg game.

“My wife, she’s an excellent cook, so that’s the main reason I can pull this off,” he said.

Sarah Silverman Eats Only Veggie Meatballs?

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, May 20th, 2009 in Actresses, Comedians, Food & Drink.

Kevin And Beans April FoolishnessWhen we heard Sarah Silverman left the meatballs off her spaghetti, we cheered even though we didn’t think she was a vegetarian.

Now, some gossip has come in that Sarah has said she doesn’t eat meat and was instructing others how to heat up veggie meatballs.

A reader named Anon left us this tip:

“Sarah’s a vegetarian. She was on cam (on her twitter account) with her friend Steve Agee and confirmed she doesn’t eat meat.”

“Oh, this was while giving a cooking demonstration on how to heat veggie meatballs your mum makes for you, in the microwave.”

She must be rubbing her good food karma on Jimmy Kimmel (we think they’re together, you never know), seeing as he’s been totally putting down pork and other meat eating on his show recently.

We searched Sarah’s Twitter and found some mentioning of Steve Agee and a video channel, but haven’t found the broadcast yet, so we’ll treat this as gossip.

But we’ve got a feeling the news is coming out soon!

Christian Bale No Longer Vegetarian: Vampire Cravings Got To Him

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, May 20th, 2009 in Actors, Not So Vegetarian.

Premiere of the Warner Bros movie Terminator SalvationIn a recent interview with GQ magazine, Dark Night Terminator dude Christian Bale has admitted to some less than vegetarian ways.

Bale failed to pay his membership dues to the veg club shortly after completing filming for American Psycho.

The bodybuilding and unbuilding you’ve done for your roles is alarming—the former all the more so for its being accomplished without any animal protein.
Actually, I’m in and out of the vegetarianism now. But yeah, the majority of the building up you’re talking about was done when I was still a vegetarian.

Dietary reasons? Or something to do with the character?
I was up in Toronto and went to see that movie Life Is Beautiful. By myself. And when I came out, I had a craving for blood unlike anything I had ever experienced since I decided to go vegetarian at the age of 7. It was a compulsion. It was undeniable. I went to several restaurants, one right after the other, and got the biggest, bloodiest steaks I could get my hands on. It was the first time I had tasted flesh in almost twenty years.

Argh! Life is beautiful, but not so much for animals when Christian gets his vampire cravings for bloody steak.

Why the change of heart (less), man?

Vegan Olivia Wild Is #1 On Maxim’s Hot 100 List

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, May 18th, 2009 in Actresses.

American Casino premiere at the 2009 Tribeca Film Festival

Maxim recently unveiled its Hot 100 List and a vegan lady is numero uno!

Olivia Wilde, star on Fox’s House, tops the charts and beat out other meat eating woman like Megan Fox, Eliza Dushku, and Rhihanna.

Olivia made Maxim’s 100 Hottest women in 2008-but barely hanging on the ladder at #97.

We suspect her sudden rise to the top has something to do with her veganness. Really, we heard plant based foods do wonders for the hair and skin.

Olivia had been “mostly vegetarian” with the exception of a plateful of flipper here and there. Then, earlier this year, she made the announcement on Ellen DeGeneres she’d transitioned into a complete vegan.
