Starbucks will introduce its vegan Frappuccinos nationally on May 5, according to The Consumerist.
Like many other drinks available at the coffee establishment, vegan, non-dairy versions have been available unofficially, and the vegan Frappuccino has already been introduced in Los Angeles.
Blogger Quarrygirl took to the web to explain more about the drink:
“The old method to make them used a base that contained dairy, but the new way you basically add a thickening syrup to base of milk/ flavour syrups/ coffee depending on the drink, so as long as the drink is made with soy it’s vegan. The coffee and creme frappuccino bases are vegan, however, the light one is not— and all the other inclusions and toppings are vegan except for whip (duh) and caramel drizzle.”
An email to a Starbuck’s manager by the Consumerist confirmed that indeed the regular frap base and cream base are vegan, but the light base isn’t, so don’t be afraid of fat little caffeinated vegan brothers and sisters.
The light base isn’t gluten-free either, which applies to both the regular and the cream.
In addition, like non-dairy drinks have their own pitchers, the vegan Frappuccino should be made in the soy pitcher.
While this should be standard procedure, it never hurts to ask.
And watch them while they’re doing it.

Comments Off on Ellie Krieger On Affordable Produce And Kids Eating Vegetables
Like Vegetarian Star suggested when Jamie Oliver‘s kids couldn’t recognize a tomato, Ellie Krieger recommends emphasizes adding colors to the plate to get kids to eat more fruits and vegetables.
While promoting produce with Michelle Obama at the White House, “I got kids to try every color of the rainbow. I like making it about color instead of telling children to eat vegetables,” she told Express Night Out.
The Food Network Healthy Appetite with Ellie Krieger chef and registered dietitian testified at Congress recently about hunger and obesity and the $1 organic apple dilemma.
“I bought an organic apple the other day and it was almost $1. If I were really hungry, I might be buying that $1 meal instead,” Krieger said.
Like the $1 value meal and Fast Food Giant X consisting of a factory farmed produced meat patty?
Krieger, who says she’d be happy if “everyone cooked with whole grains, and lots of fruits and vegetables,” demonstrates her vegetable marketing techniques on her own 7 year old daughter and they frequently make trips to the farmers market.

ABC NYC is far from vegetarian, but you can find something to suit your meatless palate like the chickpea and white bean soup and the ricotta ravioli.

Comments Off on “Private Chefs Of Beverly Hills” Killer Is Vegetarian

Private Chefs of Beverly Hills
The Food Network show Private Chefs of Beverly Hills did a little medieval twist recently when the chefs were asked to cater a dinner party with a murder mystery theme.
Private Chefs follows six cooks from a Beverly Hills private chef placement agency as they attempt to cater for the most eccentric and finicky Los Angeles clients.
Seventeenth century food was lacking in beans and tofu, as the menu consisted of Cinnamon Sausage Biscuits, Bison Soup, Roasted Turkey Leg wrapped in Collard Greens and Traditional Sheppard’s Pie.
It was truly what you’d call “mystery meat.”
The chefs had to dress up in ridiculous outfits and plant cues to the mystery in the food.
As if the episode’s menu wasn’t anti-vegetarian enough, the killer turns out to be the sole meatless eater.
Go figure.

Comments Off on PETA Says SeaWorld Should Face Manslaughter Charges

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is calling for manslaughter charges to be filed against the Orlando, Florida marine park SeaWorld, in relation to several deaths, including the recent one by trainer Dawn Brancheau by Tilikum the killer whale.
PETA’s General Counsel Jeffrey Kerr sent a 12-page letter to Florida State Attorney Lawson Lamar asking him to consider charges for both the park and its executives, saying they are “culpably negligent” for continuing to allow trainers to interact with animals despite previous events and a government warning three years ago.
There have been six publicized attacks on trainers since 2002, and an investigation by the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health after an orca attacked its trainer in 2006 concluded it was “only a matter of time” before someone was killed.
“SeaWorld has shown reckless disregard for the lives of its trainers by paying them to be in close contact with massive, powerful, wild animal who can kill them in a flash,” PETA President Ingrid Newkirk said in a statement.
“Corporations must be held accountable when their greed causes suffering and loss of life.”

George Lamb, British radio and television personality, has gone vegetarian after slaughtering a goat for television.
According to The Sun, George and his father Larry Lamb were filming with an African tribe for the ITV2 series The Parent Trip, and the goat slaughter was a big event for the day.
Since George and Larry were guests of the chief, it was considered an honor to have the goat slaughtered.
George went along with it because he didn’t want to offend his hosts.
George had to kill the goat with a pen knife and eat it live.
“It was horrible. When you hold the animal and feel the life go out of it, it’s a real eye-opener.”
George has yet to touch a piece of meat since filming wrapped up last November.
“It’s made me see it in a different light – the process of how a piece of meat ends up in a supermarket.”

Comments Off on Kim Kardashian Responds To Cat Twitter Photo Controversy

Kim Kardashian
After receiving much criticism for holding a cat by its neck for a photo on Twitter, Kim Kardashian has issued a statement explaining she’s not an animal abuser and the kitty is just fine.
What she didn’t say is that it probably bit the crap out her once the cameras were off.
“So yesterday I was doing a photo shoot with an adorable black kitty cat and I Twitpic’d this picture,” Kim wrote. “I have been getting negative comments regarding the way I was holding the kitty, but rest assured, the owner and vet were on set and showed me how to pick him up. The cat was not harmed in any way and is perfectly fine! I love animals and would never do anything to harm any animals.”
Two animal rights organizations responded differently to the situation.
PETA insisted only a mother cat knows how to handle a cat this way and Kim should have supported the cat’s bottom while holding it up.
RSPCA said the rear support is necessary for adult and big cats, but maybe not so much for smaller cats.
The cat’s opinion, however, has failed to be put on record.
