“So You Think You Can Dance” Gets Vegetable Strip Tease

Fox's So You Think You Can Dance Season 7 Viewing Party - Arrivals

People who audition for So You Think You Can Dance are similar to the hopefuls on American Idol–they’ve got to be looking for attention!

Host Cat Deeley and the dynamic panel of judges that has included Nigel Lythgoe have seen it all, but during their stop in New York they were entertained by a low-budget horror film director who was dressed in fruits and vegetables, and who’s routine included throwing broccoli at the judges.

Judge Adam Shankman said of the performance and costume, “I almost wore that today, that would have been so awkward!”

File photo of actor Gary Coleman speaking during a television interview in Los Angeles

Actor Gary Coleman has passed away at the age of 42.

He died this afternoon in a Utah hospital after going into a coma from a hemorrhage that caused bleeding inside his skull. It was his wife’s decision to remove him from life support.

Coleman was best known for his role as Arnold Jackson in the 1970s and 80s hit television series “Diff’rent Strokes,” about a wealthy Manhattan family that adopted the African-American child of their late maid before it was fashionable in Hollywood for white people to do so.

However, he starred in the 2007 A Christmas Too Many, about a dysfunctional family the actor told the Washington Post was forced to “have a vegan Christmas,” reports Vegblog.

According to DVD Talk, the usual holiday fare of deer and turkey are scarce in Malibu, which leaves the family’s best hunter to look at the guinea pigs instead, much to the disgust of his wife, daughter and his vegan son played by Austin O’Brien.

A San Francisco restaurant has paid tribute to the Beastie Boys in a very veggie manner.

According to San Francisco Weekly, Weird Fish restaurant has an item on the menu that contained a mix of seafood with tomato broth on a sour dough bun called, “B-Boy Bouillabaisse,” named after a song from the 1989 album, Paul’s Boutique.

The dish now comes with a mock salmon, renaming the creation, “B-Boy Veganbaisse.”

Seems fitting, considering Mike D is all into raw and Adam Yauch went organic and vegan after his diagnosis of cancer.

British singer Leona Lewis performs at the Rock in Rio Music Festival in Lisbon

Has Leona Lewis lost it?

In a “what was she thinking” moment, it’s been discovered she wants to ride a horse as part of her routine for her concerts.

Lewis hasn’t been able to get insurance for the stunt, something that’s preventing her from doing the cowgirl thing while singing “Bleeding Love.”

A source told the UK Daily Star:

“Health-and-safety officials wouldn’t let her ride in the studio without a helmet. A load of lawyers tried to fine-tune the idea, but Leona didn’t want to wear a hard hat. In the end, she had to sign a contract saying she wouldn’t be insured, should she fall off.”

Not only is her safety in jeopardy, but horses and any other animals aren’t fit for the stage full of loud noises, lights and other unpredictable stimuli from the crowd. Animals don’t belong in the entertainment industry, especially in this capacity. It’s a surprise that the vegetarian Leona, who’s a big supporter of animal rights and won’t wear fur or leather, is even considering this.

Emeril Lagasse is the next big celebrity chef to jump on the vegetable bandwagon.

His latest cookbook, Farm To Fork: Cooking Local, Cooking Fresh focuses on fruits, vegetables and grains, with only a small portion of meat and poultry recipes.

As expected from the title, Farm To Fork, emphasizes fresh, local ingredients to use in recipes like lemon scented blueberry pancakes and roasted beet salad.

Lagasse also says kind things about the farmers market and growing your own veggies, beginning his culinary series with the sentence, “I have had a connection with the soil since I was a young boy.”

Alice Waters may soon lose her place as top dog locavore cooking champion.

Farm to Fork is due for release in June 2010.

If there’s any time to emulate celebrity fashion and keep your ethics about animals and environment, it’s now.

More and more stars, vegetarian or not, have been seen wearing organic cotton, faux hides and sustainable stockings in public.

Treehugger has compiled a few favorites, including this Vaute Couture vegan coat by designer Leanne Hilgart worn by Emily Deschanel on Bones.

Called the “El,” Deschanel is said to own it in the recycled black color as well.

Desperate Housewives stars Teri Hathcher and Marcia Cross purchased FEED bags for the entire television series crew. The bags, made from recycled cotton, not only help the environment, but humans too, as each different style of FEED is designed to assist in hunger in various parts of the world.

EMA And Yes To Carrots Give “The Garden Challenge” To Students

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, May 27th, 2010 in Actresses, Children, Gardening, Videos.

The Environmental Media Association and Yes To Carrots teamed up to launch “The Garden Challenge” that encourages students to get acquainted with growing their own produce in a contest where schools competed for a gardening grant.

Students uploaded videos explaining why a garden would be a great addition to their schools.

Daryl Hannah, Wendie Malick, and Rosario Dawson all have words to say in the video at CBS as they’re outside among students and cabbage.

Hannah thinks a school garden will make students less fearful of vegetables.

“I become a vegetarian when I was 11, but I was always afraid of vegetables,” Hannah said. “It wasn’t until I actually started growing them that I was not afraid to eat them.”

A video of the event can be viewed at CBS.

Cloris Leachman Funny Outtakes From Spay/Neuter PSA (Video)

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, May 27th, 2010 in Actresses, Animal Issues, Videos.

Cloris Leachman‘s funny outtakes from her PSA on spaying and neutering cats and dogs is almost as funny as the actual commercial.

Leachman thinks school children should be taught how to interact with animals as part of the curriculum.

“I think we should teach in our schools how to behave with animals, how to treat them,” the actress says in the video.

If there are biology classes in junior high that want kids to cut up a dead frog, why not teach them how to care for, interact and evaluate behaviors of common pets like cats and dogs and even farm animals?
