Jason Mraz Gratitude Concert Began With Mystery Vegan Food Bowl

Written by Vegetarian Star on Saturday, October 10th, 2009 in Food & Drink, Male Musicians, Male Singers.

Farm Aid 2009

Jason Mraz is set to give his gratitude concert tomorrow  October 11 in San Diego, a chance to thank his fans by selling tickets for as little as $1 and spotlight several local charities.

Jason’s tour, the Gratitude Cafe tour, is named after one of his favorite vegan restaurants, but there’s more to the story.

“On the menu they had a `gratitude bowl,’ a food item where you didn’t know what you would get and you could pay 50 cents, $50 or whatever you wanted,” Mraz said. “It was a way to practice generosity and humility, and get a big, hearty bowl of food.”

Mraz’s concert tomorrow was created based on the same theme of giving.

“So, I thought this would be a great way to end the tour and have a ‘gratitude bowl’ (for tickets), where people can pay nothing or as much as they want. People can come out to the venue early with their families and, if they want, check out the local charities we’re working with.”

As expected, the show at the Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre tomorrow is already sold out.

A night of vegan food, fashion and animal rights will take place in Toronto on Thursday October 22.

After the dinner, Rich will showcase his fashion label with Pamela Anderson, A*Muse, at the This is London nightclub.

“I think the challenge to all of us is that we have to be better. Vegetarian chefs are like the Ginger Rogers to the omnivore chef’s Fred Astaire: Our job is harder because we have to do everything they do, only backwards and in high heels. We have to work twice as hard for half the respect. Despite this, we desperately need to engage with the mainstream food world, because it’s not enough to preach to the choir anymore. Chefs and owners, myself included, need to step up our game. We need to become the 4.0 GPA overachievers of food.”

The old saying is eat dessert first and that’s what the creator of the Craz-E Burger had in mind.

Brace your arteries for this.

The Craz-E Burger is a 1,500 calorie donut burger.

A beef patty, bacon and cheese are stuffed between two grilled glazed donut halves.

This burger has been a top seller at The Big E Festival in Springfield, Massachusetts, where organizers say they were selling at least 1,000 per day.

We always like to prove we can vegify anything, but in this case, who would want to?

Oh, heck, let’s give it a try.

Grab yourself a Boca patty, Lightlife Bacon, your favorite slice of vegan cheese.

BabyCakes will take care of the vegan donut for you and it will even be gluten-free.
