“Just say no to leather, fur and python. Everyone knows this about me, but even if I liked leather, I just couldn’t wear leather pants. It’s so soft-rock trashy.”

Michael Jackson Giraffes Face Eviction

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, October 22nd, 2009 in Animal Issues, Male Singers.

Michael Jackson Live Archive

Michael Jackson‘s giraffes could be forced from their keeper’s home if someone doesn’t cough up $100,000 and a piece of paper.

Rambo, Jabbar Jr. (JJ), Princess, and Annie Sue were acquired by Freddie Hancock of the Banjoko Wildlife Preserve in Page, Arizona in 2006.

Apparently insurance for Rambo and friends is expensive because the city wants Freddie to fork over $100,000 for a bond to insure them in case of emergencies.

In order to get the bond, Freddie needs the city to hand over a particular form, which Freddie claims they are refusing to give her.

What’s up with this?

Is Page, Arizona playing dirty landlord and trying to evict the giraffes on purpose?

Question of the day.

Name your favorite faux meat.

Brian Dales, lead singer for The Summer Set, named some vegetarian foods you might find him chowing on after a concert set.

“I just eat a ridiculous amount of Mexican food on tour,” Brian said. “Substituting anything with beans is really easy. When I’m home I really like making pastas and salads with Morning Star Grilled Chicken Strips.”

Here’s a twist.

Brian is also really into cosmetics.

“Right now I feel really strong about cosmetic/personal care product testing on animals. The stuff I’ve been reading is awful and the tests that they run on animals are disgusting and unnecessary. I really hope this can be put an end to. Most of the companies don’t even need to test their products on animals according to regulations.”

The Kind Diet

All this week, we’re hosting a giveaway and three of our lucky readers will receive a free copy of Alicia Silverstone’s new vegan diet and lifestyle book, The Kind Diet.

Every day until the end of the contest, we’re bringing you a few of Alicia’s thoughts on The Kind Diet, with a reminder to leave a comment to enter to win.

Today Alicia gives advice for those that think they’ll “slip” here and there because they’re addicted to hamburgers.

“Look, my own journey also included a time when I was an on-again- off again vegetarian, so I understand that these things don’t happen overnight. I believe that the most important thing you can offer someone is information that will allow them to get to where they need to be. In The Kind Diet, there are different entry points, so if you want to flirt with a healthier lifestyle you can do so without pressure–simply by taking in some new information and opening yourself up to better, more nutritious, and yummier food. See how that feels and go from there. For someone else, the right place to start may be a more challenging, full-on life-changing entry point. Regardless, every step in this direction can ultimately have a huge impact on your health and that of our planet. It’s important for people to know that anyone can do this. And if you fall off, get back on. Nobody’s perfect.”

And it all adds up. If everyone ate vegetarian for one day, we’d save 1.5 billion pounds of crops otherwise fed to livestock, enough to feed the state of New Mexico for more than a year, according to planetsave.com.

Enter to win The Kind Diet today.
