Craig Ferguson Alicia Silverstone Power Outage–Blame Seitan

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, October 28th, 2009 in Actresses, Food & Drink, Videos.

Alicia Silverstone was recently on the The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson to talk about her new vegan diet and lifestyle book, The Kind Diet.

The lights went out during the interview segment, leaving both Alicia and Craig to chit chat by flashlight.

During the interview, Craig turned to Alicia’s Pecan Crusted Seitan recipe and was horrified!

“Seitan!” Craig said, and then proceeded to do a ritual over Alicia’s head mocking the removal of evil spirits.

Did the powers of seitan cause the lights to go out? Actually, it was probably the strong winds (70mph) that have been reported in the greater Los Angeles area.

“You can’t go eating stuff called seitan. Are you mad?” Craig asks.

Watch the clip and find out Alicia’s answer.

Bob Barker Signs Copies Of "Priceless Memories"

Bob Barker has donated a million dollars to his alma mater, Drury University, to establish a program for animal rights, the Dorothy Jo Barker Professorship for Animal Rights.

Named after his late wife Dorothy, the program will offer studies on various animal rights issues.

“At the very least, the students who take this class will have more respect for animals,” said Barker.

“It’s taught by 6 professors all experts in their field,” said professor Dr. Patricia McEachern. “There’s no other class like this in the United States”

This isn’t the first time Barker has teamed up a higher education institute to educate others about animal welfare.

Earlier this year, Bob donated a million dollars to the University of Virginia Law school to establish an animal law program.

Sigh. A million here. A million there. Bet the animals are thankful they’ve got a wealthy man on their side.

Kudos to Bob! Keep up the great work!

Los Premios MTV 2009 - Show

Morrissey made a return to London’s Royal Albert Hall recently recovering from a collapse he experience last week on tour.

The singer seemed to be in good spirits, even joking about his medical ailment.

Moz has been known to insert his thoughts on vegetarianism during his shows and at Royal Albert Hall, he complained that “not one celebrity chef is vegetarian.”

Not yet, Moz, but we’re hoping it should happen any minute now.

Morrissey once made fun of celebrity chef Jamie Oliver saying, “That meat-fed horror Jamie “Orrible” Oliver. If he’s a master chef, then I’m Miss Brazil 1970,” after being asked who he would most likely kick in the eye.

Michelle Obama appeared on The Jay Leno Show and revealed the first pup, Bo, feasted on a doghouse shaped cake made of veal.

Ugh!

And you thought it couldn’t get any worse after the Obamas turned down the opportunity for a shelter dog.

We can’t think of a more unhappier celebration than a cake made from animals that are taken away from their mothers at birth and confined in small crates where they can’t move around.

It’s an industry so cruel, even some meat eaters swear off baby animals.

Stella McCartney, Blood Type O, And Vegetarian Diet

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, October 27th, 2009 in Fashion, Food & Drink.

McCartney Family Launch Meat Free Monday - Photocall

Could Stella McCartney‘s blood type doom her to a meat eating diet one day?

In an article from the Times Online:

“Even now, I exercise regularly, and I’ve still put on weight in the past few weeks. If I eat wheat, potatoes or rice, all the nice stuff, I just blow up. I’m O positive, which, apparently, is the meat-eating blood type — obviously not great for me.”

Stella’s talking about the controversial Blood Type Diet, advocated by Peter D’Adamo, who advocated eating certain types of foods based on the Blood Types of O, A, B, and AB.

However, missing from D’Adamo’s prescribed program is the lack of clinical data.

Plus, Type O’s are said to do best on high protein diets-not just meat.

So hold the seitan and potatoes if you must.

But pile high the dozens of other high protein vegetarian foods on your plate.
