The Kind Diet

Alicia Silverstone‘s vegan diet book, The Kind Diet, is set for release on October 13.

Here’s the cover, featuring the beautifully flawless actress.

Making the vegan transition is a gradual process that Alicia has broken down from “flirting” to “superhero.”

From an editorial description at bn.com:

“Alicia knows that changing life-long dietary habits is a process, and that each person progresses at a different pace. For that reason, The Kind Diet encompasses 3 separate levels, from Flirting to Superhero. Flirts learn to dip a toe into the vegan pool, reducing their meat-eating and swapping out a few key foods for plant-based substitutes to see quickly how even small changes can reap big results. Vegans get to experience the life-altering effects of forgoing animal-products entirely, while still enjoying many convenience foods and meat substitutes in addition to the wonderful grains, vegetables and fruits that form the core of that diet. True enlightenment comes with the Superhero program, based on the principles of macrobiotics and built on a foundation of whole grains, vegetables, and other yummy foods that Alicia describes in detail.”

Sweet!

Can’t wait to get to superhero level cause we’ve always wanted to wear a cape in the kitchen!

Brigitte Bardot Blogs To Boycott Canadian Maple Syrup

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, September 24th, 2009 in Animal Issues, Food & Drink.

Bridgitte Bardot Travels to Romania to Save Street Dogs

It’s time to break out the agave syrup for those waffles and pancakes.

Brigitte Bardot is urging everyone to boycott maple syrup made in Canada because of the country’s seal slaughter practices.

“These massive ethical reactions from consumers can sometimes convince a government or a corporation to change the way that it does business.”

“Canadian law authorizes seal pups to be legally killed as soon as they have lost their white baby fur, which happens about two weeks after birth. On the ice floes, the seals are bludgeoned, and some are skinned while still alive. Each spring, this vision of horror returns: The ice floes become an open-air slaughterhouse, where some pups are left in agony, their mothers trying desperately to revive their small bloody bodies.”

“The United States and the European Union have banned seal products, but Canada produces about 85 percent of the world’s maple syrup?the maple leaf is even the symbol of this country.”

“Refusing to buy maple syrup so as to refuse to be an accomplice to the slaughter perpetrated on the ice floes can send a strong message to Canadian officials.”

“Suck” Vampire Flick Premiers At Toronto Film Festival

Suck

Suck recently premiered at the Toronto Film Festival.

It’s a vampire horror comedy featuring stars like Moby, Alice Cooper, and Iggy Pop.

A rock band wishes to become famous and gets a chance to do so after meeting a vampire-and gets more than a record deal in the package.

“It’s sort of like an exaggerated rock & roll world,” says director and writer Rob Stefaniuk. “I’ve seen a lot of rock & roll movies, but what I wanted to do differently is make it less of a cinéma vé?rité — this is what it feels like to be in a real band, and yet I didn’t want to do a parody of a bunch of guys that go ‘Yeah dude’ and a big roadie. I wanted it to feel real, so you’re not in a band with a bunch of druggie people; you’re in a band with a bunch of vampires.”

The movie, as expected, features lots of blood and guts, and latex rubber “meat” was created to throw at vegan Moby, who plays “Beef Ballow,” lead singer for the band Secretaries of Steak.

Great idea these guys used fake meat-unlike that horrible meat tree from True Blood, so Moby wouldn’t hurl blood from disgust.

Drink Milk For A Change Launch Event With Jordin Sparks

Jordin Sparks, who has said eventually she’d like to become vegetarian, is starring in a series of ads that will tick the vegans off.

Drink Milk For A Change features Jordin sporting a dairy mustache and holding a glass of cow juice.

The campaign was launched in Los Angeles yesterday and encourages people to upload photos of themselves wearing milk mustaches at bodybymilk.com.

For each upload, one dollar will be donated to the VH1 Save the Music Foundation, which puts money into funds to restore music programs at schools.

Not every veg is keen on dairy, even if they’re not vegan.

We suggest some passive protesting-upload your soy or almond milk mustache to help out the schools.

The dairy industry will never know the difference!

The Cinema Society & Hugo Boss Screening of Inglourious Basterds - Arrivals

These days Canadian rock star Bryan Adams is a vegan who juices regularly and is into raw foods.

But years ago, when he lived in Vancouver, he would frequent a pizza place called Lombardo’s Pizzeria & Ristorante, where he would order what he called “the best pizza in the world.”

“Bryan Adams lives in London now, but he used to come all the time,” Patti Lombardo says. “He used to come Tuesday or Wednesday evening at about 10 p.m., when there were no crowds to bother him. He’s a vegetarian, so he would get a mushroom pizza. He’d sit there and go, ‘You know what? This is the best pizza in the world.’ ”

Lombardo’s is known for its wood-oven-fired pizza and features several pizzas, calzones, and pasta dishes that are vegetarian on the menu.
