Quantcast Vegetarian Starvegetarian (339)

Australian twin sisters and singing duo The Veronicas posed with some props you’ll probably never find with them on stage–skinned, dead animals representing what’s left after the material obtained for making a fur coat is ripped off them.

“[W]earing fur is unnecessary and unacceptable,” explained Jess Origliasso.

With so many fur-free retailers located at your local mall or shopping center, is it really that hard to choose compassion over killing?

A behind the scenes interview with the sisters can be viewed below.

Weezer is a largely vegetarian and vegan band, so you know the tour rider will be full of requests for good stuff.

The Smoking Gun was able to obtain a copy of the food requests while on tour. Lunch should always offer a “vegan alternative,” and suggestions such as a “vegetarian type soup,” or “vegetarian chili,” and veggie versions of hot dogs, hamburgers and other meat entrees are made.

The boys are attempting to make things eco-friendly, as the demand, “NO STYROFOAM ANYWHERE,” was printed in CAPS.  But one team of students at University of California San Diego found that paper cups actually require more energy and more materials to make, release more emissions into the atmosphere and use more waste. Oh, Say It Ain’t So!

Biz Stone is talking to himself in Stolichnaya Vodka‘s new ad campaign featuring the tagline, “Would You Have A Drink With You?”

Stone’s alter ego is much like Moby in a similar video where his evil twin derides his every accomplishment.

“Did it ever occur to you that Twitter is just a constant stream of meaningless babble?” Stone asks Stone.

“You’re not seeing the big picture,” Stone said. “Astronauts are tweeting from space. And the pace of business changed forever.”

Several celebrities who have starred in the Stoli campaign include Julia Stiles and Hugh Hefner.

Stolichnaya Vodka, like the Twitter co-founder, is vegan-friendly.

Pippa Black, actress on NBC’s Outsourced, is voicing her concern for factory farms in her PSA for vegetarianism done for PETA.

“Factory farming is a breeding ground for disease,” Black says. “These animals are living in their own wastes.”

And that’s just the beginning.

Like many PETA videos, Black’s testimony is mixed with images from real farms, demonstrating the horrors that animals endure, such as chickens being de-beaked and cows being branded.

Amazing Race Nat and Kat

Amazing Race Nat and Kat

If Terence Gerchberg is keeping up with this season’s Amazing Race, he may have experienced some post traumatic stress after watching one of the contestants eat sheep in a challenge.

Gerchberg, a vegetarian, couldn’t stomach it, but Kat, a vegetarian for over two decades, said the sheep’s head tasted “like money” and she and teammate Nat received the Fast Forward Pass for gulping it down.

Whether or not Kat’s conscience will be throwing up later is still in question. But have you ever wondered what happens to a vegetarian or vegan’s stomach after eating meat it hasn’t touched in years? You may have unwillingly participated in such an experiment and have come to your own conclusions (what do you mean there’s beef broth in the Very Veggy Soup?), but a Cornell University nutrition professor and Dr. Michael Greger, clinical nutritionist and director of public health and animal agriculture for the Humane Society of the United States, have two explanations.
