Fox Searchlight Official Slumdog Millionaire/The Wrestler Post Oscar Party

Kosher Vegetarian, starring Natalie Portman and Irrfan Khan, is set for release this Friday, October 16 2009.

In the film, Irrfan plays a strict vegetarian Gujarati man who falls in love with a Jewish girl, played by Natalie Portman.

Portman is a also a vegetarian in real life.

The film is part of a larger anthology, New York, I Love You.

“My character’s dilemma is that the woman who was once my wife, has now become a sanyasin, and he has to worship her,” said Irrfan.

“Actors all over the world are linked by a common craving for excellence. We’re all looking for challenges and glory. But with Natalie, it was very different. We constantly chatted, discussed one another’s culture and shared very warm vibes.”

Alicia Silverstone hosts a launch for her new book THE KIND DIET , NYC

Alicia Silverstone had a launch party for her vegan diet and lifestyle book, The Kind Diet, which will be released tomorrow from Rodale Publishing.

During the celebration at New York City’s Candle 79, Alicia took the time to explain why cow’s milk wasn’t made from humans.

“Remember, dairy was designed to make little baby calves turn into 400-pound cows, so that’s what it does to you,” Silverstone said. “It makes you fat.”

Well…guess sometimes you have to be blunt.

A study discussed in the Washington Post agrees.

Researchers found that children who drank 3 servings of milk a day were prone to becoming overweight.

Let’s ease up on that mother cow and chug some almond milk instead.

Nicole Lapin

Journalist Nicole Lapin, anchor for CNN.com Live, has been a proud vegan for six years and a vegetarian for 13 years.

When asked by green gossip site ecorazzi.com what the most rewarding part of going VEG was, Nicole answered, “vegan cookies.”

Oh, yeah.

There’s no sweeter product on the market than one that spares the lives of dairy cows that will eventually be sent to slaughter or that “gets rid of” baby male chicks that will never lay eggs.

A few favorite vegan cookies on our rewards list including Uncle Eddies, Nana’s (which serves up sweetness for the gluten-free folks), and Alternative Baking Company.

Check them out and request them at your local natural foods store.

Montreal Canadienes hockey player Georges Laraque has recorded his official vegetarian PSA.

Laraque isn’t new to vegetarianism, though, having practiced the diet for awhile before going vegan in June.

He’s also been involved in protests.

“Out on the ice, things get pretty rough. But it’s nothing compared to what animals in factory farming slaughterhouses go through,” Laraque says.

So nice to see more male athletes give the holler to veggies.

Alicia Silverstone Cooks Thingys NYC Food And Wine Festival 2009

Alicia Silverstone goes for a morning stroll in NYC

Alicia Silverstone was at the 2009 New York City Food and Wine Festival on Saturday to demonstrate cooking vegan recipes from her vegan diet and lifestyle book, The Kind Diet, which is set for release by Rodale Publishing on October 13 2009.

Alicia chose to cook a fried seitan pasta dish, Caesar salad, and cheesecake-all made without animal ingredients.

Throughout the demonstration, she referred to items as “thingys” and “yummy” and “yucky.”

Two assistants (who hopefully were “rewarded” with treats afterwards) helped Alicia as she showed the dishes in various moments of preparation and took questions from the audience.

Can’t wait to buy the book and make some of those yummy thingys.

Jason Mraz Gratitude Concert Began With Mystery Vegan Food Bowl

Farm Aid 2009

Jason Mraz is set to give his gratitude concert tomorrow  October 11 in San Diego, a chance to thank his fans by selling tickets for as little as $1 and spotlight several local charities.

Jason’s tour, the Gratitude Cafe tour, is named after one of his favorite vegan restaurants, but there’s more to the story.

“On the menu they had a `gratitude bowl,’ a food item where you didn’t know what you would get and you could pay 50 cents, $50 or whatever you wanted,” Mraz said. “It was a way to practice generosity and humility, and get a big, hearty bowl of food.”

Mraz’s concert tomorrow was created based on the same theme of giving.

“So, I thought this would be a great way to end the tour and have a ‘gratitude bowl’ (for tickets), where people can pay nothing or as much as they want. People can come out to the venue early with their families and, if they want, check out the local charities we’re working with.”

As expected, the show at the Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre tomorrow is already sold out.
