Ellen DeGeneres Favorite Vegetarian Celebrity VegNews Poll

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, October 16th, 2009 in TV Hosts.

36th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards

The annual VegNews Veggie Awards winners will be announced in the November/December holiday issue of the magazine coming out any day now.

Green gossip website Ecorazzi.com was able to get a sneak peek at this year’s winners and Ellen DeGeneres was chosen as favorite vegetarian celebrity by VegNews readers.

Ecorazzi’s take:

“We called this one back in June in our Top 5 Vegan Celebrities of 2009 — which was odd, because the year was only half-over and it would have been pretty embarrassing if she’d started taking diet tips from Hillary Swank.”

Will Ellen celebrate the award with a bellyful of her favorite vegan tacos?

View some of the other winners at Ecorazzi.com and find out which categories Twitter founder Biz Stone and actress/author Alicia Silverstone won.

Montreal Canadiens v Toronto Maple Leafs

Georges Laraque: Professional hockey player, animal rights activist, and vegetarian evangelist?

The Montreal Gazette reports that after one reader learned Georges was an animal free athlete, it inspired her friend to go veg as well.

“I am writing to thank you and tell you how much I appreciate the story that you published on the Canadiens’ Georges Laraque’s mission to help animals. Although I’m not a hockey fan, I admire Laraque for challenging the stereotypes about sports and diet and showing that a successful athlete doesn’t have to bulk up on animal protein.”

“If it weren’t for this article, which explained that Laraque went vegan after watching the Earthlings documentary on the abuse of animals, my friend would not have called me and told me he was going vegetarian.”

Never underestimate the power of a successful vegan male celebrity!

Alicia Silverstone - 'The Kind Diet: A Simple Guide To Feeling Great, Losing Weight and Saving The Plant' Signing

“Well, I never crave non-vegan foods, because vegan foods are so delicious. When I’m out and there are no vegetarian foods available, then I just make the best choices I can. Sometimes, it’s to eat nothing at all, or I’ll have the least offensive thing. Maybe there’s a salad with goat cheese, or potato salad with a little mayo. That’s what it’s about — making the best choices under all circumstances.”

—-Alicia Silverstone, at thatsfit.com, on making the best choices when you don’t always have vegan available.

Are there certain items you compromise on when you can’t eat the way you prefer? Will you allow mayonnaise on a veg sandwich? Mono and diglycerides from a source you can’t confirm? How do you determine what’s appropriate for your vegan diet?

The Good Ideas Salon, hosted by PSFK and Nissan, will bring together some of today’s most forward thinkers on October 20 to share their ideas on what will make the world better for the future.

Web entrepreneur and vegan Peter Rojas will serve on the panel of distinguished guest for the “Pure Living” conversation moderated by Piers Fawkes (PSFK) and psfk.com gave a preview of what Peter might share during the conversation.

Q: How do you see the ideal of pure living manifesting itself practically in the world today?
PR: In ways that people are living in ways that lessen their impact on the world: living closer to work so they don’t have to drive (as much), traveling less, going vegetarian, etc.

Q: How do you see pure living playing out in the future?
PR: In some respects we won’t have any choice but to live less resource-intensive lives. Barring some breakthrough in renewable energy (like cold fusion), we won’t have enough energy to lead the same kind of consumption-driven lives we lead now. The challenge will be to design an economy that isn’t driven by ever-increasing production and consumption.

A behind the scenes look at the photo shoot for Alicia Silverstone‘s The Kind Diet vegan lifestyle book.

Everyone gets the star studded treatment in this clip-even a carrot!

The camera also catches delicious desserts, fresh produce, and recipes in the making. Looks like one clip captured a bowl with leftover dough or batter.

Time to lick that bowl like there’s no risk of salmonella from eating raw eggs!

Watch the clip to also catch a glimpse of Alicia’s hottie rocker husband, Christopher.
