Slate has compiled their list of 10 great movies you may be missed (or is it should have missed) in 2009.

Of course, every vegetarian mother or mother to be would love to have their own personal copy of Grace, about a vegan who insists on natural childbirth and has hopes of rearing little baby Grace on rice milk and tempeh.

Baby Grace, however, has different tastes than mom and only craves blood.

Sucks when the children stray from good values.

Mom’s blood is okay at first, but Grace’s appetite grows, leaving Madeline to seek other human blood donors who aren’t exactly giving voluntarily.

From Slate:

“Horror movies don’t get any more horrific than Grace, which finds one of our few remaining taboos (pregnancy), sticks it with a clawed finger and then wiggles it around. A nice vegan lady is having a baby and doing it the old fashioned way, complete with midwife and birthing pool. Then the fetus dies in an accident. Then she decides to carry its corpse to term. Then the baby is born and it’s moving and breathing. Then it’s somehow still dead? Zombies are the new cute, but Grace makes them upsetting again.”

Vegan and horror combined in an 85 minute film may or may not entice you, but at least you now have creepy suggestions to make to those annoying people who ask the question of whether breast feeding is really vegan because the milk comes from a mammal.

Life In A Metro UK Film Premiere - Inside Arrivals

Bollywood star John Abraham is set to produce a film on tiger preservation, according to One India Entertainment.

The movie, The Return of the Tiger, will be directed by Mike Pandey.

“I decided to produce the film because I truly believe tigers are one of the most magnificent creatures on this planet,” Abraham said. “And if we don’t take quick and immediate action to preserve them there will be no tigers left.”

Some experts estimate there are only about 4,000 tigers remaining in the wild, compared to 100,000 existing a century ago.

It’s no surprise that Abraham is so interested in wildlife preservation, given his history of commitment to animals.

A noted vegetarian, he’s was nominated for PETA’s Sexiest male vegetarian last year.

The Return of the Tiger is expected to be screened at film festivals and wildlife preservation summits.

Ellen DeGeneres Portia de Rossi Chef Roberto Martin

Written by Vegetarian Star on December 29th, 2009 in Chefs, Food & Drink, Videos.

Ever wonder what the story is behind the man who makes Ellen DeGeneres‘ vegan tacos, roast and pot pie?

Roberto Martin is the kind of man every woman wants–because he knows how to cook a good veg meal!

Martin, the youngest of 15 children, originally wanted to dice the Obamas and Gores of the world instead of onions.

He studied political science at Cal State Fullerton.

He later studied at the Culinary Institute of America and found himself cooking for celebrities shortly thereafter.

Cooking for a family with a diabetic child was Martin’s motivation to switch to plant based cooking.

“Now that I cook exclusively vegan meals for Ellen and Portia, I’ve learned that the variety of experiences in my life has helped me along the way,” Martin says on Ellen’s website. “I know what it’s like to change your habits, to remove animal protein from your diet, and I plan on sharing my experience with you. Even if you start with just one meal a week, you can learn to cook healthy and delicious vegan meals without having to make a big change.”

In case you’ve forgotten how good Martin does his thing, watch the clip showing him demonstrating a vegan pot pie.

And grab some of his other recipe ideas here.

Now, things are getting back to normal.

After an anti-fur ad featuring the ladies covered up, PETA is finally getting back to its roots by featuring R & B singer Mario baring his pecs to encourage the ladies (and anyone else who likes a chiseled bod) to not wear fur.

“I’ve been offered deals to wear fur…I’ve been offered [deals] from different fur companies to wear their fur for tour on stage,” Mario says in the video below.

Thank goodness he chose to take PETA’s offer to promote fur free attire instead!

PETA has a new anti-fur poster that was unveiled at Washington, D.C. Metro stops today featuring Oprah Winfrey, Michelle Obama, Tyra Banks and Carrie Underwood.

Amazingly, this ad comes with all celebrities wearing their clothing.

And way to go for having one veggie in the group!

Public transportation is the environmentally friendly way to travel, but during December the cold weather can scare even the most enthusiastic tree hugger away from the bus stop and into the car.

Let’s hope this ad reminds the bravest to have compassion for the animals as well as the earth.

And that Tyra stops thinking pork makes vegetables taste better.
