The Maryland Renaissance festival has arrived, and rocker Joan Jett has penned a letter to officials in the state she grew up in, asking them to nix the traditional elephant and camel rides.

“Unlike musicians such as me, these wild animals do not choose to perform. In the desert, where they belong, camels live in social herds,” Jett said.

Mario Batali has spent almost as many years preparing meals on television as he has for his family.

A proponent of Meatless Monday, the celebrity chef has a vegetarian pasta dish that reflects his desire to promote lighter, plant-based eating and his ability to create a dish that every type of eater will love.

“After 18 years of raising hungry boys in my kitchen, I seldom have leftovers when pasta water and butter are paired as the base of a sauce,” Batali said.

Alan Cumming celebrated New York City being named most vegan-friendly in the nation with some representative from both People from the Ethical Treatment of Animals and NYC City Council.

The group posed for a photo with a vegetable replica of the New York City skyline that featured broccoli trees, carrot skyscrapers and a Chrysler building topped with radishes.

Emily Deschanel and her husband are celebrating their son’s third birthday with a vegan party!

“[Henry] turns 3. We’re going to have a little party for him, trying not to overwhelm him too much,” Deschanel told PEOPLE at the Mercy For Animals 15th Anniversary Gala Friday night in West Hollywood.

Deschanel plans to serve vegan tacos for the toddler she describes as “99% vegan,” adding he occasionally eats eggs like his father, writer and actor David Hornsby.
