Mickey Rourke and his pet chihuahua Jaws star in PETA's latest billboard campaign in West Hollywood

Mickey Rourke is carrying his balls across continents.

The actor has agreed to represent PETA is a campaign to encourage spaying and neutering pets, “Hall the Balls to Fix Your Dogs,” in India. Billboards with a similar tagline were placed in California last year.

“Rourke was so moved when he learned about the dog and cat overpopulation crisis in India that he jumped at the chance to challenge people to get their animals sterilized,” PETA said in a press release.

According to the animal rights group, India has about 25 million homeless dogs that roam the streets.

The Chuck Season Finale was divided into two parts: “Chuck Versus the Subway” and “Chuck Versus the Ring, Part 2.”

When Joshua Gomez‘s character, Morgan, and a few other guys learn they’re going to face some pretty bad guys and might have to use a gun, they argue over who should do so.  Awesome can’t because he’s a doctor designed to save lives, but Morgan is a “lapsed vegetarian.”

Presumably, while he’s going to McDonald’s during his Buy More computer store breaks, using violence or ending another life may not be as traumatic during the “lapsed” stage.

In real life, Gomez is not a lapsed vegetarian (last we heard), and prefers his veggie burgers microwaved.

Rachelle Carson Begley Protects Family By Living Green

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, May 26th, 2010 in Actresses, Environment-Eco-Green.

Premiere Of DreamWorks Animation's Shrek Forever After - Arrivals

Rachelle Carson Begley and her husband Ed Begley Jr. try to live as green a life as possible, although, if you tune into their Planet Green Channel show, “Living with Ed,” you’ll find they aren’t always in agreement, as Rachelle’s zest meter for an eco and veggie friendly lifestyle is always running with a little less fuel.

One area of green Rachelle doesn’t skip though is her family and home, as she told Celebrity Baby Scoop, that although she thinks men get into the green movement for energy or financial savings, women do so to protect their families.

“We have drop tolerant plants and our whole yard is filled with fruit trees. We have 4 fig trees, 3 apple trees, 3 orange and 2 lemon. We also have a vegetable garden. We live like anyone else, but we have a few more restrictions and we try a little extra to get organic foods. We’re mostly a vegetarian household too.”

Rachelle also keeps the plastics, parabens and toxic cleaning supplies out of the kitchen and bathroom.

“Look under your sinks and look what you are exposing yourself and your children to. Something like Fantastic or Tilex works instantaneously, but look at the downsides of those chemicals going into your water stream. You are breathing those chemicals and they are going onto your skin.”

PETA Body Scan Ad

PETA Body Scan Ad

Another provocative PETA ad was rejected, this time by Southwest Airlines, which was meant to convey that going vegetarian would give you such a great physique, there’d be no need to feel self-conscious at the security scanner.

The scanner, which relies on backscatter technology to give a nude-like image of a body to reveal hidden weapons, has been under scrutiny in the past because of safety and health  concerns.

According to Centredaily, some professors in biochemistry, biophysics and experts in imaging, cancer and crystals wrote to the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, saying the scanners could expose the skin to high dosages of radiation that could result in health problems, especially in children, pregnant women, seniors, and those with immune system issues.

Dr. Alexander Garza, the assistant secretary for health affairs and chief medical officer for the department, said, “The risk is so low it’s almost negligible.”

Plus, he added, worried fliers can always reject the X-Ray vision technology scanner and go for the old fashioned feel you up, otherwise known as the pat down version at security check.

The True Blood Season 2 DVD and Blu-Ray edition has just been released and there are special features included, such as fake infomercials and The Vampire News.

One segment on The Vampire News has Tom Colicchio making an edible version of a blood drink for vampires that have stopped eating humans for ethical reasons (even the free-range humans).

Why do conventional chefs think chicken stock is a necessity in an otherwise vegetable based dish?

Who knows, but if you substitute vegetable broth for the stock, you have a completely vegan shake with fava beans for protein, spices like fennel and star anise, beet juice and other greens.

“I have a few friends that are vampires, and I’ve had this issue,” Collichio says. “We go out, and I’m sitting there through appetizer, and entree, and dessert, and they’re just kind of nursing a TruBlood. It’s a little awkward.”

Solange Knowles went through a stage in her teen years that she calls a “weird teenage Rasta phase” where she became a vegan.

From Village Voice:

Definitely, everyone has that unfortunate, weird teen phase
Like vegan, Rasta, yeah…

You had a vegan phase when you were fourteen?
Oh yeah, it was hard full on. I was thirteen. And I definitely did the whole vegetarian, cut my hair off, not-wearing-it-if-it’s-not-from-the-thrift-store phase.

Natalie Portman Would Love The Eggplant Dish–Minus The Cheese

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, May 26th, 2010 in Actresses, Food & Drink, Recipes, Videos.

WJW Fox 8 “Hollywood and Dine” feature has Natalie Portman discussing how she’s getting into the local and slow foods movement, frequenting restaurants that use vegetables from their own farm.

The Mossman then makes an eggplant dish he thinks Portman would love.

Better hold off the cheese next time, considering Portman turned vegan for good after reading Jonathan Safran Foer‘s Eating Animals.
