Russell Simmons has teamed up with another entrepreneur to open a food factory and chain of food stores in neighborhoods that don’t normally have access to healthy food.
Simmons and Hajj Hasaun Muhammad hope to expand the business to several areas around Brooklyn, including Brownsville and Central Harlem.
As for the nature of the food to be offered, Simmons said, “We want cool, fun vegetarian stuf.”

Kellie Pickler was crowned the champion on the final episode of this series’ Dancing with the Stars.
The country singer said she was not at all expecting to win, but called the honor “amazing.”
Earlier in the show, host Tom Bergeron made a joke that because of Pickler’s slim physique, the show could just as easily be called “find the body fat.”

The star of hits like King Hedley II, Intimate Apparel and Fences wrote to legislators in the state asking them to support laws that would ban circuses in the state from using bullhooks on elephants.

Mark Bittman follows that old saying the breakfast is the most important vegan meal of the day.
During a recent interview with Take Two on 89.3 KPCC, Southern California’s Public Radio, Bittman gave a few suggestions on how anyone following his vegan before six flexitarian or completely vegan eating plan can fuel up for the first meal of the day.
“I like oatmeal with chopped vegetables and cilantro and scallions and soy sauce. I realize that’s not to everyone’s taste, but many people like savory breakfast. Smoothies, which I make with frozen fruit and silken tofu or soy milk or almond milk or oat milk or whatever. And fruit, I just eat it through the morning and it seems to do fine.”
