"Food Rules" Michael Pollan
Flexitarian Michael Pollan, author of books such as The Omnivore’s Dilemma, has more than a few vegetarian friendly suggestions in his latest book, Food Rules, among the list of 64 principles to healthier eating that are accompanied with a paragraph explanation.
Like eating things with one leg.
Eating what stands on one leg [mushrooms and plant foods] is better than eating what stands on two legs [fowl], which is better than eating what stands on four legs [cows, pigs and other mammals].
Our notes: “Eating” can also be extended to drinking, so you may also want to include cow’s milk if you’re following that rule.

Comments Off on Disney “World Of Color” Offers Boxed Vegetarian Lunches
Disneyland is giving families the opportunity to pre-order meals when visiting the California park’s World of Color exhibit that premieres on June 11, 2010. The show, at Disney’s California Adventure, part of the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California, features over 1200 fountains, laser lights, fireworks and colorful projections on screen.
By going online, guests can order boxed picnic meal options and two vegetarian meals available include the Mediterranean Vegetarian (marinated grilled vegetables in a whole wheat wrap with roasted garlic hummus) and a children’s meal of The Lunchbox Classic (peanut butter and jelly).
Hopefully, Disney will also use some of its organic produce in the pre-ordered meals.

Sure, Walmart may suck at a lot of humanitarian issues, like their connection to sweatshops, denying workers fair pay, overtime, health care, maternity leave and violating labor laws in the U.S. and other countries, but when it comes to purchasing sustainable, non-toxic cotton, they’re making great strides.
According to Home Textiles Today, the retailer was one of the top organic cotton using brands and retailing in 2009, along with C&A (Belgium), Nike, Williams-Sonoma, Inc., H&M, Anvil Knitwear, Coop Switzerland, Greensource Organic Clothing Co., Levi Strauss & Co., Target, adidas, and Nordstrom.
“Many people thought the recession would mean an end to all things organic, but the market reacted in quite the opposite way,” said LaRhea Pepper, senior director and co-author of the report done by the non-profit Organic Exchange. The report states sales of organic cotton jumped 35% in the same year to $4.3 billion.
Great job Walmart. This year lets aim to be in the top 10 in those other aforementioned categories.

Paul McCartney played for the Obamas and a crowd of celebrities and journalists during an event where he was presented with the Gershwin Prize for Popular Song by president Barack Obama.
Receiving the award from the president was comparable to being honored, according to McCartney.
“Getting this prize would just be good enough, but getting it from THIS president …You have billions of us who are rooting for you, and we know you’re going to come through.”
The Gershwin prize is named after songwriters and brothers George and Ira Gershwin, who’s collections are located at the Library of Congress, which awarded McCartney the honor.
Besides McCartney serenading the First Lady with the lyrics to “Michelle,” other performers at the event included Stevie Wonder singing “We Can Work It Out,” The Jonas Brothers “Baby You Can Drive My Car,” Corinne Bailey Rae on “Blackbird,” and Faith Hill performing “Long and Winding Road.”

John Robbins has released his latest book, The New Good Life: Living Better Than Ever In An Age Of Less, and VegNews has provided an exciting sneak peak as to what you’ll get should you choose to purchase a copy or borrow from your local library.
Robbins, who would have been the heir to the Baskin Robbins ice cream fortune, but chose to follow his ethics instead, writes he once took famous chef Julia Child to a farm that produced veal.
“Julia Child, the famous chef, author, and TV personality, used to dismiss vegetarians as sappy. But when, late in her life, I took her to visit a veal production facility, she was horrified by what she saw. “I had no idea it was so severe,” she told me.”

Sia PETA
Sia Furler, the Australian vegetarian singer-songwriter who wows worldwide with her soulful, jazzy voice during songs like “Breathe Me,” agreed to help PETA in an campaign for spaying and neutering.
Looking just as beautiful was her co-star Pantera in the ad that launched in Australia.
Sia has sent out several Tweets about vegetarianism and animal issues, including a recent one about pet adoption.

Musician Jesse Malin may have a plan B when he’s tired of hitting the road, moving from one performance venue to another. During a recent interview, he mentioned he’s had so much experience looking for vegetarian food around the world, he should write a book about it.
“I eat some cheese, so I’m not a vegan. I can eat pizza and stuff, but I try to eat healthy and stay strong and moving around. I know where the good vegetarian restaurants are in weird places like Finland and Brooklyn. Maybe someday, I’ll write a book or do a little TV show about where to eat vegetarian all over the world.”
