Cornelia Guest Reveals She Prefers Simple Vegan Dishes

Cornelia Guest is not one to pick up a cookbook and try the recipe with 30 different ingredients, half of which most people have never heard of or may not be able to pronounce.

On the contrary, this vegan fashion business owner and author would prefer a vegan dish like most of you probably cook regularly, one that is simple and not very time-consuming.

“One of my pet peeves in life is pretension, especially with food. I love food in its natural state; I have a very simple palate,” Guest said.

Tom Parker Bowles, the son of the Duchess of Cornwall, has ticked off quite a few vegan parents for criticizing their decision to raise their kids as such.

The author of The Year of Eating Dangerously, who’s admitted to eating dog, cobra and foie gras, said on an episode of UK’s ITV’s This Morning that, “‘All these ridiculous hippies who bang on and tell us that we shouldn’t be eating this, we should be eating vegan raw diets…for children, that’s child abuse, I think.'”

Rory Freedman, co-author of the popular Skinny Bitch vegan diet books took the challenge of eating vegan on a very low budget.

Although many say it’s impossible to do at the poverty level, Freedman purchased a week’s worth of grains, beans, fruits, vegetables and condiments for $33, the amount the average person on food stamps in California has to work with.

Doran Petersan, a fierce competitor in the Food Network series Cupcake Wars and Cupcake Wars: All Stars, has published a cookbook, Sticky Fingers’ Sweets: 100 Super-Sweet Vegan Recipes.

Dirt Candy A Cookbook

Amanda Cohen‘s cookbook, Dirt Candy: A Cookbook: Flavor-Forward Food from the Upstart New York City Vegetarian Restaurant, is set for release in August.

The book combines vegetable-based recipes with comics on chefs, cooking and cuisine. Some of those comics contained in the owner of New York’s esteemed vegetable restaurant and Iron Chef competitor’s book were previewed in 2010, and now, a few more sneak peaks are available from Eater.
