Alicia Silverstone

Alicia Silverstone sparked controversy awhile back when she posted a video of herself feeding her infant by pre-chewing the food in her mouth before placing it in his.

While some were repulsed by this idea, Silverstone and experts said it helps increase the nutrition absorbed by the baby’s system and provides for bonding time.

While there’s evidence this practice is natural and helpful with infants, there’s not much on the benefits of doing this adult to adult. But in a recent YouTube clip, Silverstone is out to shock her critics again. The vegan actress confesses she often chews food for her husband Christopher Jarecki before placing it in his mouth.

Mayim Bialik has shared a few vegan substitutions for traditional Passover dishes in the New York Times “Well” blog.

In a post titled, “A Vegan Passover,” the blog discusses how certain foods restricted at Passover, grains, beans and corn, may present a problem for vegans who subsists on the items.

The traditional Seder plate, consisting of six foods that symbolize the story of Exodus, contains both lamb and egg, two items that are definitely not vegan.

Bialik has created substitutions for both.

“Last year I got thinking about the similarities between the Passover and Easter traditions. Jewish people search their homes for leaven before Passover starts to get it out of the house (since chametz or “leavening” isn’t allowed in the house during Passover). Christians celebrate Easter by searching for eggs (the egg is seen as a sign of renewed life or resurrected life by breaking out of it, relating to Jesus’ resurrection on Easter Sunday). So both holidays have this tradition of searching…”
