Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, November 23rd, 2012 in Food & Drink, Recipes, Videos.

ABC’s KABC-TV in Los Angeles, CA has a short feature on vegetarian Thanksgiving side dishes.

While many officially celebrated un-turkey day yesterday, some will still be cooking for the entire weekend, depending on when friends and relatives are able to visit.

“You’ve got to provide something for everyone. You want to make everyone happy on Thanksgiving,” Chef Anthony Jacquet said. “The sides are the personality of the meal also and people get just as excited about those as the turkey.”

Or the tofu turkey.

Great side dishes include Colorful Kale Salad, Farro Salad and Roasted Kabocha Squash.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is asking President Obama to do more than just pardon Cobbler and Gobbler–the two turkeys he is set to spare from the dinner table as every U.S. president does annually in tradition.

They’d like him to remove turkeys from America’s dinner plate entirely.

‘It makes light of the mass slaughter of some 46 million gentle, intelligent birds and portrays the United States’ president as being in some sort of business partnership with the turkey-killing industry,” said Ingrid Newkirk, president of PETA, in a statement to the Obama.

“I feel in one sense very, very honored. But in another sense — this is pretty funny — my dad told me he didn’t care about any of the other people on the sheet of stamps, and he asked me if I could get a special sheet of just my stamp.”

Steve-O, who was featured in PETA’s limited edition set of postal stamps featuring famous vegetarian celebrities.

Bet Steve’s dad put a whole sheet of stamps on the fridge, where the comedian and actor who calls himself the “vegan nerd” stashes “almond milk, Gardein brand fake chicken breasts, and plenty of raw fruits and veggies.”
