Chrissie Hynde Unveils New PETA Advert

Vegan Rocker Chrissie Hynde of the Pretenders opened a vegan restaurant a little under a year ago, The Vegiterranean, in her hometown of Akron, Ohio. It features vegan Italian food such as vegetarian Penne Chicken Pesto – Gardein (Garden Grown-therefore plant based) Chicken with Pesto and Penne Pasta and many other Italian dishes you can get with “Rawmesan” toppings.

Last weekend, The Vegiterranean, put 2 of its vegan burgers in the National Hamburger Festival to show who’s really got the (un) beef.

Before the festival began, Executive Chef Scott Jones told the Akron Beacon Journal, The Vegiterranean’s burgers were, “packed full of goodness and love,” in addition to being 100 percent free of any animal products, cholesterol, saturated fat, and trans fat.

Liz Hurley Turns Selfridges Pink In Aid Of Breast Cancer Awareness

Celebrities can be either praised or condemned by groups like PETA for their actions involving animals and the planet. In this case, Liz Hurley is getting the latter of the treatment as she is being criticized for using meat in her upcoming line of pre-packaged meals, advertised as both “healthy” and “low-fat.”

“Animal products, which are typically loaded with saturated fat and cholesterol, are far from being healthy,” said Yvonne Taylor, PETA representative, in a written letter.

“Won’t you please consider promoting a truly healthy, low-fat vegetarian diet? A vegetarian diet not only reduces the risk of cancer, heart disease and numerous other life-threatening illnesses but is also a far kinder diet for animals who need not have their lives cut short to please our palates.”

PETA is also urging Hurley to spare the life of a piglet that she is rearing on her personal farm.

“Just as you would cringe at shipping Emily (Hurley’s dog) off to slaughter, you should also be reluctant to betray a pig who you have cared for and befriended.”

No word on the type of meal Hurley plans to use the piglet for, but we can’t help but agree with the last statement and think Hurley should keep pets off the plate.

Premiere of Universal's

Russell Brand will be hosting MTV’s Music Video Awards this year. He spoke to E!Online about some of his plans for the show on September 7th:

“I’m planning to have lesbian kisses with Britney and Madonna individually,” Brand said. “It’s not going to be easy what with my genitals, but God, I will try.”

Although the Jonas Brothers will also be making an appearance, Brand joked they really should be in bed by that hour.

“We may have to cancel them, because I don’t think the show will be early enough for them,” he said. “Those boys will be sent promptly to bed if I come across them.”

The Forgetting Sarah Marshall actor was named one of Peta Europe’s Sexiest Vegetarians in 2007.

Bear Grylls Semi-Vegetarian At Home

Discovery Upfront Presentation New York Talent Images

What is a semi-vegetarian? And what does a semi-vegetarian eat at home? These questions burn away at our inquisitive minds, but we do know that these part-time vegetarians are confusing.

Bear Grylls is known on television for showing the world how you can survive in the most horrid conditions with ways such as extracting water from animal feces and gnawing down on raw flesh straight from the wilderness. However, at home, he admits to less carnivorous (and grossorous) eating habits.

The details of his semi-vegetarianism remain unclear, but anything beats his television diet of carcass surrounded by flies.

Tobey Maguire Close To Being Vegan But Not Quite There

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, July 24th, 2008 in Actors.

Tobey Maguire once spoke to Parade Magazine about being many things, including a gambler, an art collector, and a vegetarian who’s almost vegan:

“Actually, I’m close to being a vegan, but I’m not one, technically. I don’t eat eggs, or nearly any dairy—no cheese or milk. I do eat honey, and a piece of milk chocolate here and there…. It’s never really been that hard for me. I’ve never had any desire to eat meat. In fact, when I was a kid I would have a really difficult time eating meat at all. It had to be the perfect bite, with no fat or gristle or bone or anything like that.”

The Young Wild Things Tour

Rocker drummer Andy Hurley of Fall Out Boy spoke with Comic Book Resources last month during his visit to WizardWorld Chicago about his love of comics and some of his influences musically, including Earth Crisis and other political bands.

CBR: There are a lot of celebrities, especially lately, who have proclaimed a vague affection for comics, given that superhero movies have recently helped bring that genre and indeed the comic book medium to the public eye. However, they’re not all truly genuine in their appreciation of the medium. What sets you apart as a successful musician who happens to like comics?

Andy Hurley: I guess what sets me apart is I grew up reading comics. My brother kind of passed down his Marvel collection. It’s the same way I got into Star Wars and into music. That was kind of the legacy that was passed down to me. Once I got into punk rock in high school, I kind of had a phase where I wasn’t into comics as much, and I wasn’t really reading them. And that was when Warren Ellis kind of had his first run on “Transmetropolitan” and later “Planetary” and “The Authority.”… That’s what kind of reignited my faith in comics.

“When Fall Out Boy started we were all in hardcore bands together and the scene was getting so negative and so worthless. I got into hardcore because of Earth Crisis and Unbroken – a lot of political bands, and then punk because of Propagandhi and all of that stuff because of Rage Against the Machine when I was really young. I was really politicized and I had a reason. I mean, I’m vegan/straightedge still and that’s really important. In the end it was all just fashion and kids were idiots and the music was garbage and it just wasn’t saying anything anymore and I think it was a total bum-out.”
