Has Vegetarian Batman Gone A Little Batty?

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008 in Actors.

So you’ve probably already heard the news about Christian Bale’s arrest for assaulting his mother and sister. Bale has denied the charges.

With all of the negative press surrounding him lately, we thought we’d take a moment to highlight a more positive face of this actor.

Bale turned vegetarian at age 6 after reading Charlotte’s Web and has been active in numerous welfare groups such as Greenpeace and World Wildlife Fund.

He was quoted once saying:

“My family has always been very interested in animal care and animal rights.  All my pets are from rescue homes so I tend to be aware of these issues.”

Heather Mills Takes Vegan Shoemaker Friend On Vacation

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008 in Models.

Heather Mills hangs out in NYC

Celebrities aren’t exactly known for packing light on trips and Heather Mills is no exception.

On a trip to Necker Island in The Caribbean, she took a team of 20 people with her, including, personal assistant, security guard, and vegan shoemaker friend.

We’re not sure if the friend is really…well just a friend or if she had plans to have her very own pair of vegan beach flip flops made for every day of the vacation.

It could be worse, though. Oprah Winfrey brings along a bra handler.

Did We Miss Josh Hartnett’s Birthday? Did He Eat Meat During The Black Dahlia?

Giorgio Armani Beauty Hosts A Luncheon For Josh Hartnett

It looks like we did. Oh, well. Happy Belated anyway to the vegetarian actor who’s starred in such films as The Faculty, Black Hawk Down, and Pearl Harbor.

It seems he felt he had to abandon his lifestyle temporarily while filming in Bulgaria because a doctor told him he needed it for the grueling training regime to play a boxer in The Black Dahlia.

An interview with Contact Music:

“It’s all meat, all the time, over there. “I was trying for awhile, but I would work 12 hours and then box for four hours every night. “I was gaunt. The doctor told me, ‘Eat meat.” And that was it.”

Hmm…Not to judge a man on his (belated) birthday, but we do know of many athletes, including Prince Fielder and ultimate fighting champ vegan Mac Danzig, who’ve maintained a vegetarian or vegan diet under grueling physical conditions.

We suppose all devoted fans will let this slide, but we just had to call attention to it.

Even Ronald McDonald Won’t Eat A Big Mac

Crowds Gather For Macy's Annual Thanksgiving Day Parade

The Bostonist featured an article discussing how several celebrities have brought vegness into the spotlight.

Some of the famous discussed included Oprah’s famous 21-day cleanse when she abstained from lots of things, animal products being one of them, Russell Simmons, Kansas City Chief’s Tony Gonzalez, and Ronald McDonald.

Geoffrey Giuliano was one of the actors who played Ronald McDonald in the past. Apparently he was so disturbed by the idea of factory farming, he had to give up his job to keep a clear conscience.

In an interview, he was quoted as saying, “There’s no question that I was manipulating these children. I was a highly paid, highly trained, highly polished actor. Every show was a performance and I had a mandate to get that message out there, and yeah, it was not too hard – anybody can manipulate a child. I just went home one night, and I said, ‘I cannot do this, I can’t live with myself if I continue to do this.”

An accomplished actor and author, Giuliano has written over 30 best-selling books and has worked as an actor, producer, and director.

It appears good things can happen when you quit the right (or shall we say wrong) day job.

Hip hop mega mogul Russell Simmons rides a bike after yoga

Russell Simmons gave an interview to CNN in which he spoke about veganism, yoga, and his support for Obama.

Some of his motives for going vegan included less harm to the planet. He said his friends have also reported he’s looked better over the years since his meatless adventures started.

Turns out, he originally got into yoga to check out the hot chicks! He soon learned there was much more the meditation could do for him (with hot chicks being a bonus).

Go here to watch Russell, learn about his book, and hear him talk about the hot yoga chicks.

Alicia Silverstone’s Dogs Don’t Need Beano Anymore

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008 in Actresses, Food & Drink.

Peta

I am Alicia Silverstone and I am a vegetarian. My dog is also vegan and has stopped farting tremendously.

Ok, so maybe we made up the last line or maybe…it was edited before the photo went to press.

Not long ago, Alicia Silverstone said in an interview with Graham Norton that she switched her dogs to a vegan diet and since then, they don’t have nearly as much gas.

While starting a veg diet may do the opposite for humans until they adjust, Silverstone’s dogs have done quite well. “All four of my dogs are vegan, they don’t fart anymore,” she said.

Silverstone has been very passionate about spreading the veg news, including working with Peta.

Note: While dogs can do well with vegan diets, it is not recommended for cats, since essential nutrients they need, such as taurine, are found in meat products. Cats are carnivores at heart. We also don’t advise giving your dog Beano unless a vet’s ok’d it. This was brought to you today by Vegetarian Star Public Service Announcement for Cat and Dog Health.

Demanding Heather Mills Can’t Find Home With Prudential Realty

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, July 21st, 2008 in Models.

Heather Mills gets down on all fours doggy style in Washington DC

Vegan Heather Mills is looking for a new home in the U.S. We hope she isn’t as picky as she is with her daughter’s food regime, otherwise she could be hunting for awhile. A few months ago, she was reported to have sent an 8 page list of what little McCartney could and couldn’t eat during a vacation with her ex husband, Beatles great Sir Paul McCartney, “driving the hotel staff mad, faxing both the head chef and manager instructions and recipe suggestions for Bea.”

Now she’s being demanding again, this time with her realtor, Prudential. “She has reportedly been losing her temper with real estate agents who are ignoring her strict budget of no more than $1,000,000.”

When she finally snatches up a home, we’ll be interested to know if she’s doing anything green with it and we’ll publish the details of that 20 page report as well.

Duh Moby! Buy Cast Iron For Your Kitchen!

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, July 21st, 2008 in Food & Drink, Male Musicians, Male Singers.

Epicurious

Epicurious.com has a feature on their website where celebrities, such as Lisa Loeb, Gabrielle Reece, and vegan Moby take you on a tour of their kitchens.

When Moby opened his refrigerator to the camera we spied awesome goodies such as Amy’s Salsa, Eden Soy Milk, and Ezekiel Bread. There is also a Homer Simpson toy on the counter, but don’t ask us what it’s used for!

Some of his favorite utensils include a white pot which he thinks was handed down by his grandfather. He is also a fan of the microwave because it’s helpful for those with hangovers who still need good food such as burritos.

Moby griped about how non-stick skillets wear away over time and hinted at how the chemicals must be transferring from the skillet to our bodies. Duh! Just go buy yourself some cast iron skillets.
