Alicia Silverstone believes plant based foods are the secret to getting a celeb body and shuns the notion of dieting.

“If you want to lose weight just focus on your health. You don’t have to have a diet mentality at all if you eat healthy, plant-based foods,” she said.

“Honestly, you should add more kale and Swiss chard to your diet. Look at my skin. It works wonders. All you need to do is eat wholegrains or plant-based foods. If you eat this way, you simply can’t be fat.”

Bryan Adams, What’s In Your Shopping Cart?

Peace One Day - Stage Performances

We at Vegetarian Star know how much you like snooping in celebrities’ grocery bags, so we thought we’d bring you more voyeuristic fun, this time with Bryan Adams.

Adams, longtime vegetarian and supporter of Peta, allowed Dr. John Briffa to examine the contents of his grocery bags. Dr. Briffa is known at The Guardian, for putting celebrity favorite foods under scrutiny. Here’s what Adams had to say:

Adams: I became a vegan for my health 20 years ago. I abide by the rule that if it looks like it’s going to clog your system, it probably will. People don’t understand about me being vegan, but I’m not a preacher, I simply have my view on what works for me.

I start my day with fruit juice and a mixed fruit salad. Dinner is salads or, if I’m not on a raw-food diet, then pasta or something veggie that’s cooked. If I’m in the studio then the food tends to be garbage for the most part, unless you’re lucky enough to have it catered in. I have been known to bring avocados to the set with lemons.

Here’s what Dr. Briffa had to say:

Avocado

Avocados are rich in monounsaturated fat, which has a variety of heart-healthy properties. They also offer up a decent portion of protein, especially for a fruit, which helps sate the appetite.

Dried fruit and nuts

Nuts will provide protein which can be deficient in the vegan diet. They are also rich in monounsaturated fat and other nutrients beneficial to the cardiovascular system. Dried fruit is also relatively healthy – not just for vegan rock stars, but other mortals too.

Everclear Demands Hummus, Soya Milk Backstage

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, July 28th, 2008 in Bands, Food & Drink, Male Musicians, Male Singers.

Everclear Launches

Stars can get picky with their demands during concerts, but at least some are demanding the healthy stuff.

According to the San Diego Reader blog, The Steve Miller Band likes to sip on a gallon of homemade vegetarian soup in their hotels, for example.

Everclear is slightly more demanding as their hotel room bill might include a veggie tray with hummus and a liter of Soya Milk.

Brian Adam’s On PETA And Killing Baby Seals In Canada

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, July 28th, 2008 in Male Musicians, Male Singers.

Calvin Klein 40th Anniversary

For all the 80s babies or those that love 80s music (or even early 90s) Bryan Adams’ love songs and ballads (and even his rock songs) made the decade with memories.

The singer spoke to PETA about vegetarianism and animal rights:

What made you decide to get involved with PETA?
I’ve been vegetarian for about 17-18 years now, since I was about 28. And of course, my motto has always been “If you love animals, don’t eat them”.

What do you think about the killing of baby seals for their fur in Canada?
I’m opposed to fur and any kind of use of animal products. I don’t eat them, and I don’t wear them. I’m not for the killing of any creature – whether it be seals, cows, dogs, anything. So anytime it comes to any kind of animal cruelty, I’m totally against it.

Move over Danica Patrick. A new female is taking the wheel for race car driving and being ecologically responsible about it as well.

Leilani Munter, who served as a stunt double for Catherine Zeta-Jones, is a NASCAR driver who describes her mission as “a vegetarian hippie chick race-car driver’s journey to be carbon neutral.”

Besides being a veggie goody two shoes, for every race she runs, she buys an acre of rain forest, to offset the carbon footprint. She has an energy solar home with rainwater storage, solar water heating and composting systems. In addition,  she’s spent the past several weeks on Capitol Hill showing her support for Joe Lieberman’s Climate Security Act. While doing all of this, she still manages to blog at Carbon-Free Girl.com

“There are some fans it rubs the wrong way: They don’t like it that I’m promoting An Inconvenient Truth because they think I’m a weird, greenie, vegetarian chick from California.”

“And I get letters from people asking, ‘Can you tell me how to go about ‘adopting’ an acre of rainforest?’ And every time I get an e-mail like that I feel like I’m making a small effect … even though I’m not in the top level of IndyCar or NASCAR, where I could be reaching a lot more people.”

Only 32 years young, she has been on the cover of several magazines, plus featured in Vogue and Esquire, and FHM gave her the “the hottest woman in NASCAR” title.  Hopefully, “the greenest driver in NASCAR,” will continue to have influence on people involved with the sport.

Family Festival Street Fair & Tribeca ESPN Sports Day At The 2008 TFF

Whoopi Goldberg hosted the 62nd Annual Tony Awards this year with PureOlogy Serious Colour Care being the haircare sponsor of the event.

Pureology Products are marketed as both cruelty free and vegan and a source says Miss Goldberg was very excited to learn a product she was trying on that night, NanoWorks Shampoo and Condition, was vegan.

Although we are not sure if Goldberg is a vegetarian, we surely hope this excitement spreads into other areas of her life and she chooses more products that are vegan, green, and earth and animal friendly for her lifestyle!

Morrissey at O2: Turn Off That Barbecue!

Written by Vegetarian Star on Saturday, July 26th, 2008 in Male Musicians, Male Singers.

Morrissey Plays Alexandra Palace

Morrissey is quite serious about spreading the vegetarian news. While playing at the O2 Wireless Festival he wasn’t too thrilled to see the V.I.P. area so close to the barbecue, even requesting that the barbecue be turned off.

This request wasn’t granted, but that still didn’t stop him from posting, “Meat Is Murder,” signs in the barbecue area.
