Barack Obama Eats Vegetarian With India Prime Minister

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, November 8th, 2010 in Food & Drink, Politicians.

President Barack Obama has traveled to India to address parliament members on making the nation a permanent member of the U.N.

While he is there, Obama is getting the opportunity to partake in some of the nation’s cultural practices. Prime Minster Manmohan Singh has already served a completely vegetarian dinner to the president of the United States in his home in New Delhi.

Film maker Danny Boyle once said India was “vegetarian nation” and statistics compiled by government groups and other organizations back his description.

There’s no excuse for DeSean Jackson grabbing a Philadelphia cheesesteak after the game, when he can take advantage of other high protein manly foods at the Philadelphia Eagles’ Lincoln Financial Field like, “mock-steak sandwiches, faux-chicken sandwiches, veggie dogs, and veggie burgers.”

Dennis Kucinich Writing Vegan Diet Book

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, November 8th, 2010 in Books, Food & Drink, Politicians.

When some politicians write books, they discuss the scandals, the life on Capitol Hill and their next career move.

Representative Dennis Kucinich would like to tell you about his diet.

From the Bloomberg Businessweek article on vegan powerhouses, it’s reported that the Ohio congressman is working on a book about his vegan lifestyle, tentatively titled, “The Cleveland Diet.”

Kucinich is such a good political talker, he was able to persuade Representative Robert A. Brady (D-Pa.), the head of the Committee on House Administration, to put vegan options on the menu at the cafeteria during Congress’ sessions.

Here’s hoping he wins plenty of votes for the diet when the book is released.

Rachael Ray "Look + Cook"

Rachael Ray "Look + Cook"

Rachael Ray‘s latest book, Look + Cook, unfortunately, didn’t include an entire chapter of vegetarian recipes like the Big Orange Book did.

Look + Cook has an accompanying website which features videos of Rachael demonstrating a few of the recipes from the cookbook. Individual Vegetable Pot Pies from page 232 rivals a vegetable pocket more than a pie. But with it’s versatility (omit the egg and substitute vegan butter for vegan pot pies) and quickness (Ray promises a vegetable pot pie that takes less time to prepare than to thaw a frozen one), the Individual Vegetable Pot Pie and other recipes may or may not be worth purchasing the book, so it’s great you can get instructions from the website.

Jorge Garcia Of “Lost” Goes Vegetarian For Animals

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, November 5th, 2010 in Actors, Animal Issues, Food & Drink.

Jorge Garcia may have been a little confused by vegan marshmallows, but he’s completely understanding of why he won’t be eating turkey this Thanksgiving or living on an island that doesn’t offer plant-based sources of nutrition.

“I’ve been a vegetarian for about four months now,” Garcia said.

Learning how animals are raised in crowded conditions and slaughtered prompted the change.

“It’s about the animals,” Garcia added.

Someone send this man a vegan chocolate marshmallow turkey! He’ll totally understand it now.

Jessica Seinfeld became an even more famous wife of Jerry Seinfeld after publishing a cookbook, Deceptively Delicious, that offered tips for incorporating vegetables into kids’ meals. While the title made it sound as if Seinfeld wanted parents to trick kids into eating something unknown, she clarified with Parent Dish that was never the intention. It was more about enhanced vegetable marketing.

“There is never a moment when my kids don’t know how important vegetables are. I add purees like I would add milk or sugar. I don’t think of them as anything scandalous or deceptive. I think what’s really deceptive is how food companies market their food as good for people when it’s not. That’s the deception going on in the food world, not making your family’s food better for them. That’s not something I feel bad about.”

This fancying up of vegetables and other healthy foods and placing them in different locations is similar to what one high school in New York did to increase sales of wholesome foods and decrease consumption of sugared milk, desserts and other less desirable items.
