Premiere Of Sony Pictures Classics Rachel Getting Married - Arrivals

Several vegetarian and vegan hip hop stars will be making guest appearances in the film, In Pursuit Of A Green Planet, a documentary on food choice, health, and the planet.

In the film, Keith Tucker travels the country on a Greyhound bus powered by recycled vegetable oil while he makes the transition from eating the average American diet to a totally organic, vegan one.

Tucker brings along some adolescents who are already experiencing diet related health problems and are at a crucial point to change their lives forever. Not only do the kids get lessons in making themselves and the planet healthier, they get the privilege of meeting some awesome veggie hip hop stars along the way, like Saul Williams, Persia White, Justin Bua, Stic Man, and KRS One.

According to hiphoppress.com:

“The goal of the “Pursuit of a Green Planet” documentary is to take an inside look at how the food we eat affects our health and tie healthy living back to the origins of Hip Hop. As Hip Hop was a pioneering art form for the urban community looking for a better life in the late 70s, “Pursuit of a Green Planet” brings those ideals full circle by incorporating Hip Hop into the Green Movement.”

Bif Naked Says Don’t Mistreat Your Body Just Because It Fails You

Bif Naked was the perfect picture of health.

A raw food vegan who worked out regularly and unlike some in the entertainment industry, shunned drugs and alcohol.

Her clean lifestyle didn’t stop cancer from creeping into her life. But that doesn’t mean she wasn’t doing something right or that she should let her health go to hell because of it.

“You know, I lived a pretty clean lifestyle — no booze and no meat and all that — and I still got breast cancer,” she said in an interview. “After that, I had girlfriends come up to me and say, ‘Wow, I’m having a f—ing drink.’ And I went, ‘Great, knock yourself out.’… I still eat exactly the way I did, and don’t drink. Something like this is not a reason to mistreat your body.”

Vegan Scott Jurek Aiming For 8th Western States Endurance Win

Vegan marathoner Scott Jurek is gearing up to compete in the Western States Endurance Run from June 27-28.

Jurek won seven consecutive titles from 1999-2005, then went on hiatus because he was looking for a different challenge.

As if the Western States Endurance Run wasn’t challenging enough. According to the organization’s website:

“The Run is conducted along the Western States Trail starting at Squaw Valley, California, and ending in Auburn, California, a total of 100 miles. The trail ascends from the Squaw Valley floor (elevation 6,200 feet) to Emigrant Pass (elevation 8,750 feet), a climb of 2,550 vertical feet in the first 4½ miles. From the pass, following the original trails used by the gold and silver miners of the 1850’s, runners travel west, climbing another 15,540 feet and descending 22,970 feet before reaching Auburn.”

“Most of the trail passes through remote and rugged territory, accessible only to hikers, horses and helicopters.”

No problem for a guy who fills up on the beans and tofu, right?

Although Scott grew up in a fishing, hunting, and meat eating world, he later went vegan, and now the 6 ‘2″, 170 pound athlete lives a world of beans, legumes, lentils, and soy.

Wishing Scott the best of luck. Show ’em how vegans do it, man.

20th Anniversary Genesis Awards - Show

“It is hard sometimes because some have such great personalities, but you get used to it. It becomes a mind-set where we known these two are staying, these two are going. I also know I’m doing a good thing, because if I kept them, pretty soon I’d have no room to foster anymore. So, I’m saving a lot of lives by sending them along.”

—Vegan Cartoonist Dan Piraro, in an interview with Vegetarian Times for the July/August issue. Dan and his wife, Ashley Lou, bring a zoo of animals into their homes to care for until homes are found. Check out his comics at bizarro.com.

Operation Smile Presents The 2009 Smile Event

Sad news for those rooting for John Salley on I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here!

Spider legs Salley came in third, behind Torrie Wilson, and Lou Diamond Phillips taking the cake.

Before the final showdown all three finalist had to endure a “jungle spa,” consisting of creepy crawlers, baby crocodiles, and mealworms to win a gourmet meal.

No one was a loser in that round (or perhaps they all were because they had to put up with that) and all three got their grub on.

John had a tofu burger waiting for him, but Torrie’s meal choice wasn’t too shabby either, as she requested a vegetarian pizza. Lou Diamond? Fried chicken! Boo!

Lou’s charity of choice, Art Has Heart Foundation, will get a fat check for his victory. The organization awards scholarships to lower-income high school students.

Fashion for Life 2009 held at the California Market Center in Los Angeles, CA

Okay, so she’s not addicted to the vegan lifestyle, but she does have addictions to one particular actress.  It’s more like confessions of a Gwyneth Paltrowaholic.

Leslie Bibb, who plays Alicia Billington, the rival to Isla Fisher’s character Rebecca Bloomwood, in Confessions of a Shopaholic, gushed over her admiration for Gwyneth Paltrow to the New York Post. Apparently, Gwyneth’s so cool, she’s a total tofu chicken winner dinner. Or something like that.

Leslie: Now it’s like, “Hey Gwyn, let’s talk about Kabbalah!” I still have a total girl crush though. That Gwyneth is a total winner, winner, chicken dinner.

PW: Ah, a Las Vegas lady!
Leslie: You know it’s from Vegas! Oh man, I’m sure Gwyneth would think I’m nuts for saying that.

PW: Well, she doesn’t eat chicken.
Leslie: [laughs] Of course, right, “I’m a vegan, I don’t get that joke.” OK, fine, you’re a winner, winner tofu chicken dinner! Better?

We know Gwyneth’s definitely not vegan. But oh, well.

We’ve never been called a winner tofu chicken dinner. It must definitely be a regional thing. Now we know how to compliment our Las Vegas fans.

Much love to you winner tofu chicken dinners.

Emily Deschanel Asks Rep. Waxman To Help Protect Great Apes

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, June 24th, 2009 in Actresses, Animal Issues.

Monte Carlo Television Festival 2009 Closing Ceremony

Author Rory Freedman said she admires Emily Deschanel, saying, “Her life is busy, her schedule’s busy but she always, always, always makes time for the animals.”

Emily is keeping up that reputation and has written to California congressman Rep. Henry Waxman urging him to cosponsor the Town-Reichart Great Ape Protection Act, which would phase out “invasive scientific research” on chimpanzees and release federally owned apes to chimpanzee sanctuaries.

The number of apes that would be released to sanctuaries is around 500.

Emily writes, “The Great Ape Protection Act is the best chance we have to ease their pain and suffering.”

“They could form bonds with other chimpanzees, bask in the sunlight, and feel the grass and the earth. That’s the least we can do for chimpanzees, our species’ closest living relatives.”
