“I wanted people to have an opportunity to really be kind to themselves—once and for all, have everything they ever dreamed of, like the strongest immune system, the most beautiful skin, increased energy so they are just so vital, and reduced risk of illness—from the really scary ones like cancer, heart disease, diabetes and arthritis to allergies and asthma. The great news is that in that process you are also being kind to the planet and also kind to other creatures and also kind to children and people of the world who have no food. So it really just sums up what is possible through our food choices.”

Alicia Silverstone has the advice you need to enjoy beans without the gas or a certain supplement that’s over the counter to help get rid of gas, but last time you checked contained gelatin in the capsule.

This tip is included with the other 7 Weird, Yet Helpful Green Tips From Celebrites at Treehugger.

“Soak the beans overnight, and then cook them with a small piece of kombu, a Japanese seaweed. When you bring the beans to a boil, remove all the white foam at the top–that should remove all the gas.”

If you’ve tried this technique before, please chime in and tell everyone how it worked for you–and anyone else within a few feet of you while your system was digesting.

Alicia Silverstone Gives Solutions In Natural Solutions Magazine

Broadway Opening Of RED - Arrivals And Curtain Call

Alicia Silverstone recently interviewed with Natural Solutions magazine for its April 2010 issue.

As expected, the conversation was filled with the topics Alicia is known best for–health, environment and veganism.

A few highlights:

It Is Easy To Be Vegan:
Everyone has to make time to find food, and it doesn’t add any extra time to find vegan food. It’s about prioritizing your life and figuring out what is important to you. I don’t care about new clothes, new cars, or fancy jewelry. I don’t go out and spend money on alcohol. Most people spend a lot of money on stuff: coffee, cigarettes, medication, or liquor. But when you stop spending money on stuff and start spending money on living well, it’s amazing what can happen to you.

On Her New York City Food Orgy:
In New York, I’ve been on a food orgy, walking around trying all the great restaurants, stores, and vendors. I can get a warm bagel with vegan cream cheese on almost every corner. The vegan cheese plate and vegan mint ice cream sundae at Pure Food and Wine [a raw-foods, vegan restaurant in Gramercy Park]? Oh my God, it’s so good. And there are falafels everywhere—I love falafels.

“It’s like I have a magic, secret toolbox that handles everything and I want everybody to have it because it’s amazing. It really opens your heart up and takes the gunk away. All that nasty food we put in our body that is just gunking up our system … it’s hard to know what’s your right move. So I feel grateful for (my diet) because of the clarity I feel.”

Time Stands Still Broadway Opening Night - Arrivals & Curtain Call

Alicia Silverstone just embarked on a brand new project–a role in the Donald Margulies play Time Stands Still.

Alicia chatted with the NY Mag at one of her favorite veggie restaurants, Pure Food & Wine about her new role.

Alicia may be snacking on edamame and acai juice between Acts now, but it wasn’t always that way.

“I was a total meat-eater, are you kidding me? I was 21, and when the word health came up, it meant, ‘Oh, you’re telling me to lose weight.’ I had quite a bit of pressure about my weight and stuff. So I said, ‘Fuck you. I’m going to eat whatever I want. I don’t care.’ I just totally rebelled—I was anti-health. My love for animals is what saved me.”

After the NY Mag suggested Alicia’s character Mandy in Time Stands Still is somewhat like her Clueless character Cher-superficial and bubbly-Alicia insisted that was where the similarities ended.

“Cher was a teenage girl and Mandy is a professional person who runs entire events. She meets her lover at a launch party for a book on Darfur. Just like everybody, she’s had pain, but she’s not going to war.”

Alicia Silverstone is one of those activists who will tell you to put your fork where your mouth is!

Seen here in this clip, Alicia expresses her disbelief that an event meant to raise environmental awareness would serve mostly non vegetarian food.

“So I go to these events to save the rain forest and they’re serving beef… And now when I’m invited to these events, I say I will not come unless you make your menu support your argument.”

Does Alicia even bother to attend the Environmental Media Awards?
