Wyntergrace Williams, Montel Williams’ daughter, is inviting the Obama girls to get in on the vegetarian school lunch action!
Not long ago, we brought you the news that Wyntergrace is urging everyone to sign a petition asking congress to ensure more vegetarian options are available in school lunches.
This week, she’ll be headed to Washington, D.C. to ask Congress to change the Child Nutrition act to require public schools to include healthy, vegetarian options. She’s also written a letter to Sasha and Malia Obama in hopes they will help her with her cause.
“My name is Wyntergrace and I’m a big fan of yours. It seems that we have a few things in common. We all love dogs, live on the East Coast, have fantastic moms and maternal grand moms and both of our dads are quite famous. In our household we also eat healthy foods and I am working on a school project to get healthier foods in schools across the country. I would love for you to join my campaign and sign my petition and encourage other students and families to follow our own and respective families’ lead.”
“The problem is that many schools do not offer enough healthful choices. This is especially true when it comes to vegetarian meals. A lot of us ask for vegetarian meals out of compassion for animals, like I do, or because of concerns about health or the environment, but all students would benefit from having a variety of healthy options, and other plant-based meals available.”
Jane Velez-Mitchell is tackling animal rights and vegan issues on television once again!
During a recent Issues With Jane Velez-Mitchell, the vegan television anchor discussed the recent swine flu outbreak and its possible link to inhumane factory farming of pigs. Some scientists believe when pigs are kept in such confined conditions as they are in factory farms, their immune systems cannot fight infections.
There have been at least 40 CDC confirmed swine flu cases in the United States during this outbreak.
She interviewed Dr. Michael Greger, Director of Public Health and Animal Agriculture of the Humane Society of the United States.
“When thousands of animals are overcrowded together in these filthy football field size sheds to lie in, nose to nose in their own waste, it’s a breeding ground for disease.,” said Dr. Gregor. “The perfect storm environment for the emergence and spread for these new diseases.”
Watch the video to hear Dr. Greger and Jane discuss more about the possible link between pig factory farms and swine flu.

“And now these days, you can get everything vegan-vegan marshmallows…so now I’m eating all these things that you couldn’t even get before.”
Geezer says when people come over to his home and eat, they don’t even realize the meat’s not there until he tells them!

Although neither Simon Cowellnor Oprah Winfrey are vegetarians, both have experimented with it. Simon tried a vegetarian diet for 1 week and loved Linda McCartney’s meatless sausages. Oprah did a 21 day vegan cleanse with a little advice from author Kathy Freston. Sure would be nice if both of them went back to it. So between the two stars who publicly gave the veggie life a try, who would you rather do…

Comments Off on Natalie Portman Keeps Vegan Identity Out Of Filmmaking
Natalie Portmanis a strict vegan who won’t even wear clothing made from animals. But when it comes to her job in the film industry, she tries to keep personal life separate from business.
Portman recently appeared at an Apple store as part of the “Meet The Filmmaker” series.
Michael Croland, blogger for heeb’n’vegan, got the opportunity that every man on planet earth dreams about: to talk to Natalie.
Croland asked Portman about the film, Kosher Vegetarian, and how her religious and diet beliefs played a role in movie. Portman plays a Jewish woman in love with a Indian vegetarian.
“I try not to mix my beliefs too much with my filmmaking. … I went to see [Closer director] Mike Nichols speak the other night when he was at MoMA, and he was actually saying … the biggest job of the actor is to make a case for their character–that you have to defend your character no matter what. So if you’re playing a serial killer, you have to believe in that completely. … That’s your biggest job. … You’re obviously playing people with all different belief systems that are very different from your own.”
