Comments Off on Meatless Mouthful–Hope Solo Scores For US Soccer And Kid Lunches

“The meals children eat at school … are often high in saturated fat and lacking in fruits and vegetables. You can’t make it to the Olympics without making wise food choices.”
—Hope Solo, in a letter to Congress back in 2010, urging it to pass the Healthy School Meals Act. Solo helped the U.S. Women’s Soccer team bring home a Gold this year at the London Olympic games.

Comments Off on Tommy Lee Bans SeaWorld “Shamu Rocks” From Motley Crue Music

Tommy Lee is no longer interested in hearing about the sex lives of the whales at SeaWorld. He just wants to make sure his music isn’t being played while they’re getting it on.
In a letter to John T. Reilly, President of SeaWorld San Diego, Lee asks that the marine park not play any Motley Crue music during any of its “Shamu Rocks” shows.
“Although we like to torture the human fans who willingly come to our shows, we don’t want to be a part of making innocent animals’ lives hellish,” writes Lee. “I’ve learned from my friends at PETA that these marine animals are very sensitive to sound, as they communicate by sonar, and loud noises mess with their most basic instincts and drive them more nuts than they already are when trapped in your tanks.”

Comments Off on “The Colbert Report” Highlights King’s Stance On Dogs’ Right To Fight (Video)
Stephen Colbert poked fun of Congressman Steve King’s (R-Iowa) recent comments that suggested legislation to crack down on dog fighting is placing animals above humans and is therefore, wrong to do.
“When the legislation that passed in the farm bill that says that it’s a federal crime to watch animals fight or to induce someone else to watch an animal fight, but it’s not a federal crime to induce somebody to watch people fighting, there’s something wrong with the priorities of people that think like that,” King said in July.
Understanding King’s viewpoint, Colbert uses an analogy that dogs growing up in poverty can have the same opportunity to get out and make it big like humans do–provided there are no silly anti-dog fighting laws to get in their way.
“It’s a classic Cinderella story,” Colbert begins on a segment of The Colbert Report. “A troubled young dog from a tough neighborhood looking for a way off the street heads down to the gym and chooses to enter the exciting world of dog fighting. A mentor takes him in, teaches this dog everything he knows. And when that dog feels ready, he enters the ring to prove to the world and to himself that he’s got the talent and tenacity to be a winner. Or a loser, in which case, he is killed.”
