Jillian Michaels is currently making rounds in the U.S. for her “Maximize Your Life Tour,” dispensing all the great advice and counsel she gives to those lucky enough to land a spot on The Biggest Loser.
Michaels is almost a vegan.
In the past she’s discussed eating fish as her only meat and she promoted coconut milk for a company that specializes in vegan dairy products like ice cream and yogurt.
If you fall under the same category as Michaels and aren’t giving up animal products completely, that’s still no excuse to completely sabotage a good diet, as Michaels explained it’s about eating right most of the time, as she shared with U.S. News and World Report.

KCRW, a community service of Santa Monica College and Southern California’s leading National Public Radio affiliate recently featured its first all vegetarian episode of its “Good Food” program.
Several well known names and leaders in the plant-based industry were guests, including vegan chef and author Tal Ronnen, author and food columnist Mark Bittman and several other writers and bloggers.

Tom Colicchio is backing a bill that would let every consumer know if genetically modified food ingredients are in the food they are purchasing.
Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., and Rep. Peter DeFazio, D-Ore have introduced a bill that would require these foods to be labeled as such.
“As a chef and restaurateur, it’s extremely important to me to know what I’m cooking with. Is it too much to ask to know what I’m really feeding my family?” Colicchio asked.

Comments Off on PETA Billboard Races To Educate Kentucky Derby Fans On Horse Drugs
PETA has a new mobile billboard that will serve to remind visitors to the Kentucky Derby this weekend that horse racing is not always fun and games.
Up to and during the day of the race, this ad will be driven outside the racetrack to highlight the use and abuse of drugs used on race horses, which PETA says has contributed to the death of several horses on the race tracks.
It’s not certain what the High School Musical and Spring Breakers actress picked up to refuel for the day, but after looking over the menu for the all plant-based cafe, it’s for sure she had a plethora of options to choose from.
Comments Off on Queens Elementary School Offers First All Vegetarian Lunch Menu
A public school in Queens has become the first ever to offer an entirely vegetarian menu to its students.
Children at PS 244 elementary can now take advantage of lunches containing items such as roasted chickpeas, braised black beans with plantains, tofu veggie wraps, vegetarian chili and roasted tofu with Asian sesame sauce thanks to a partnership with the New York Coalition for Health School Food, a non-profit dedicated to “introducing plant-based foods and nutrition education in schools.”
The Today Show recently featured a segment on AKC breeders and how the seal of the organization’s approval doesn’t necessarily equivalate to an animal bred in healthy conditions.
Animal welfare groups such as American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and the Humane Society of the United States claim some of these certified breeders are actually raising dogs that are sick, diseased, malnurished and living in filthy conditions.
Wayne Pacelle, CEO of the HSUS says that a breeder’s certification from the AKC is nothing more than a “piece of paper without any value for dog welfare.”

“Instead of protecting animals on farms from abuse, Senate Bill 1248 is a thinly veiled attempt by the agriculture industry to paralyze the efforts of those concerned about the treatment of animals to collect evidence of a pattern of routine cruelty, which has helped officials win convictions against animal abusers around the country, by forcing them to turn over evidence of single instances of abuse almost immediately. … Because there is no government inspection of farms for cruelty violations and because workers who report abuse are frequently ignored, investigations are often the only way to hold farm workers and managers accountable to existing laws.”
