The China Study

The China Study was a favorite among Huffington Post readers in a poll on healthy lifestyle books. Members of the Huffpost Healthy Living Community voted this book on how diet is closely linked to the “diseases of affluence” as a favorite among 50.

“All types of books can change our lives, but health books have a potent ability to influence our lifestyle habits,” the blog writes.

Abbie Gibbs is an 18-year old with a full schedule. Not only is she starting her studies at Oxford University, she’s just signed a deal with Harper Collins because of the success of her book, The Dark Heroine, which she describes as being, “more bloody” than Twilight.

Unlike the Twilight vampires who use the term “vegetarian” to describe only the abstinence from humans and not animals, Gibbs is in real life a genuine biter of vegetable flesh.

Dirt Candy A Cookbook

Amanda Cohen‘s Dirt Candy Cookbook has given these hush puppies the description of: “like crack: cheap, easy, and people can’t get enough of it.”

Luckily, like many of the items Cohen serves at her NYC restaurant with the same name as her recently released cookbook, this drug can be veganized by substituting the one egg, milk and butter.

Mayim Bialik has announced she’s publishing her own vegan cookbook.

The book will contain traditional Jewish recipes where she has converted any animal products into plant-based ones.

The actress wrote about her upcoming book on her blog:

“My next book will be a plant-based (vegan!) family cookbook. Yay! It’s meant for vegan and non-vegan alike! I intend to include all of the Jewish recipes I’ve veganized as well as all of our family’s standard beloved recipes.”

USA Today’s Whitney Mattheson was surprised at the content of Amanda Cohen‘s Dirt Candy. She expected a traditional book filled with recipes and a few cute cartoons. She was pleasantly surprised to learn the book is a mix of both, including some facts and history more exciting than licking a spoon covered with wasabi like the “scandalous history of the graham cracker.”

Dirt Candy A Cookbook

Amanda Cohen‘s interview with the New York Daily News times perfectly with the release of her cookbook, Dirt Candy: A Cookbook: Flavor-Forward Food from the Upstart New York City Vegetarian Restaurant.

Cohen gave readers a preview of some of the recipes they’ll find in the cookbook bearing the same name as her New York vegetable restaurant like hush puppies with maple butter and kimchi doughnuts.

“I love cookbooks and have hundreds at home, but I wanted to make one that I would be so excited to buy, take home and read, and not just because it was from a certain restaurant,” Cohen said.
