PETA Butter–Peanut Butter Named After Animal Rights Group

If you love peanut butter and animals, grab a few jars of the nut butter designed to celebrate People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals’ 30th anniversary, PeTA Butter.
With a name so quirky, PeTA Butter could almost be interpreted as an April Fools’ post, but these 16 oz. jars that sell for about $5 were crafted by the folks at New York based Peanut Butter & Co, a maker of 10 varieties of peanut butter flavors, each given unique and delicious sounding names like Dark Chocolate Dreams, White Chocolate Wonderful, Cinnamon Raisin Swirl and Mighty Maple.
The jars are available from the Peanut Butter & Co.’s Sullivan Street sandwich shop and online through Peanut Butter Co. and PETA. These will also be included in the celebrity gift bags for PETA’s 30th anniversary gala on September 25th.
Each purchase of PeTA Butter helps fund PETA’s “Pledge to be Veg” campaign, where visitors to the organization’s website promise to eat vegan for at least 30 days.
“Peanut butter is used on one of the most popular sandwiches in America–and it’s vegan–so PETA Butter was a natural choice,” said PETA’s president and co-founder Ingrid Newkirk.
The Good Stuff: Nine of the 10 varieties of Peanut Butter Co. nut butters are certified vegan. The nut butters are free of cholesterol, trans fats, hydrogenated oils, dairy products and refined sugars. And every flavor comes packaged in a recyclable plastic jar.
