AFI Hunter Burgan Loves Vegan Cheese Sourdough Bread

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, September 30th, 2009 in Food & Drink, Male Musicians, Male Singers.

Live Earth - New York - Show

But make sure you wash your hands before making it for him if you’ve sneezed recently.

Hunter Burgan, bassist for AFI known for his sarcastic, witty, and downright ridiculous comments on his blog or during interviews, shared with buzznet.com what he’d love to put on his sandwich.

Buzznet: If we gave you sourdough bread and you could put anything on your sandwich what would it be?

Hunter: It would be very thoughtful of you. Thanks! (I might melt some vegan cheese on it, or maybe marinara sauce if you didn’t give me vegan cheese.)

But Hunter’s quite a germaphobe, so never do something like cough and touch his sandwich. Or stab him.

“I hate it when people sneeze into their hands and then place them inside my mouth. I also hate being stabbed to death…that’s a pet peeve of mine.”

And to all ladies without eyes, sorry, you’ll have to find another man.

“The first thing I look for is eyes. If a girl doesn’t have eyes, it’s a no-go. (my apologies to all the girls reading this without eyes).”

Read more, find out when AFI plays near you and possibly determine if Hunter’s been eating too much moldy sourdough bread from his answers at buzznet.com.

American Samoa Tsunami And Global Climate Change

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, September 30th, 2009 in Environment-Eco-Green.

Satellite view of Planet Earth

An 8.3-magnitude earthquake struck off American Samoa on Tuesday, which triggered a three-metre tsunami, destroying villages in the Pacific state of Samoa.

Could a few less steaks on everyone’s part help prevent these disasters?

Some scientists believe global warming may contribute to earthquakes and tsunamis.

“Climate change doesn’t just affect the atmosphere and the oceans but the earth’s crust as well. The whole earth is an interactive system,” Professor Bill McGuire of University College London told Reuters.

McGuire used climate change from the end of the last ice age as an example.

“When the ice is lost, the earth’s crust bounces back up again and that triggers earthquakes, which trigger submarine landslides, which cause tsunamis,” he said.

The raising of livestock and production of animal foods such as dairy contribute more greenhouse emissions than transportation.

The old saying is an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Could less beef and cheese on everyone’s part be the panacea for future tsunamis?

Meatless Mouthful: Isa Chandra Moskowitz On Baketivism

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, September 30th, 2009 in Authors, Chefs, Food & Drink, Meatless Mouthful.

“Oh, you mean baketivism? I just made that word up. I think that activism isn’t what you decide to do but how it affects people. So if someone says, I’m going to become an activist! I’m going to stand on a street corner and preach about veganism! And then they go ahead and do that but no one listens and no one becomes vegan, then is that activism? On the other hand, maybe there’s a girl in the middle of nowhere who loves animals and decided to bake vegan. And then people taste her cupcakes and are like “What the hell, I’ll go vegan, too.” Obviously I think the latter is more effective, but I guess people might not see it as activism.”

—-Isa Chandra Moskowitz on a different, definitely tastier method of activism, in an interview with vegnews.com.

Red Bull Toasted Honors Action Sports Icon Travis Pastrana

Jenn Brown is a television host, personality, and producer who’s credits include the only female correspondent for Inside the NFL, covering boxing and martial arts for Showtime Sports, and the Superbowl.

Jenn has a thing for vegetarian food, but hasn’t made the complete switch yet.

Here’s an example of what you might find in her shopping cart:

Boca Flame Grilled Meatless Burgers

“I don’t eat a lot of red meat, but when I’m in the mood for a burger, I grill one of these soy versions and smear it with a little ketchup and mustard or hummus.”

Galaxy Mozzarella Flavor Rice Shreds

“This soy free cheese melts just like the regular kind but has just 70 calories and 1 gram of saturated fat. I use it on top of beans and homemade pizza.”

A non vegetarian who eats Boca Burgers and dairy alternative cheese?

Oh, Jenn, you’re so close darling. Just take the plunge and go full veg!

Jivamukti boasts it grows and harvests its own wheatgrass and sprouts in house, along with baking fresh vegan goodies.

“I go all organic vegetarian, lot of fruits and water! I workout daily, the usual “star” stuff:) I get plenty of sleep, I think that helps, too. And I never go outside without my parasol to lessen the sun rays to the skin. Yes, my friends make fun of me but I know it works, and what works on camera works for me:).”

Although we’re still disappointed Hayley Williams of Paramore is not a total veghead like we thought, we’re happy to report she’s still partaking in a veggie burger here and there.

“gnarly press day pt. 1 is coomplete! lunch @ the diner in camden. best veggie burger i ever had.”

Yes, there are Tweets of her talking about stuffing her face with hotdogs, but…hey, we’ll take what we can get from one of our favorite Twilight soundtrack gals.

Plus she still digs Gardenburgers.
