Lynda Stoner Releases Vegan Cookbook

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, August 13th, 2008 in Actresses, Authors, Recipes.

The People's Choice Awards 1998

Australian actress Lynda Stoner won fans for her roles in The Young Doctors and Cop Shop. Her new cookbook, Now Vegan! not only features yummy recipes, but quotes from famous vegetarians and vegans as well.

The main reason she chose to write the book was to introduce people to the variety of vegan food options while still keeping it very much mainstream.

She cites her favorite recipes from the book as “Mum’s Croquettes,” or “Curried Sausages.”

Bridgitte Bardot Travels to Romania to Save Street Dogs

Brigitte Bardot has held a long career as an actress and former fashion model in addition to being a champion of animal rights.

She recently wrote a letter to Mr. Hubert Heiss, Ambassador of Austria in France, in response to the imprisonment of Austrian animal rights activist. Here are a few excerpts:

“You are aware of the great emotion, even indignation, of European citizens after the arbitrary arrest on May 21, when 10 Austrian animal advocates were imprisoned in an opacity worthy of a totalitarian regime.”

“Austrian organizations were scandalized by the violence of the police intervention and the seizure, in private apartments and offices, of many work files and computers.”

“These methods, unworthy of a democratic country, made Amnesty International react, and today I make a point of adding my voice to the many protests.”

“It is true that for a few months already animals advocates have been presented like dangerous terrorists, even criminals. This manipulation of public opinion is shocking, outrageous and more than misplaced.”

“Yes, our actions do disturb some economic interests, but is that a reason to soil and muzzle those who are committed to help beings without defense?”

“Violence is not our reality, on the contrary, we fight it with determination. Violence is in the blind, cruel and daily exploitation of millions of animals degraded to consumer goods, to research tools, and being denied their sensitive nature.”

Kevin Nealon’s Chickpea Vegetarian Taco Recipe

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, August 12th, 2008 in Actors, Comedians, Recipes.

Premiere Of Showtimes

Rachel Ray and Emeril better be watching their backs. Kevin Nealon might be waiting for them, ready to attack with his carrot sticks as he apparently knows how to cook a mean chickpea taco. There’s a recipe on Nutrition MD attributed to the Saturday Night Live and Weeds actor.

He once made fun of meat eaters by saying:

“I can’t wait for meal time when I can chow down on the decomposing corpse of a tortured animal. I like knowing that eating meat makes me four times more likely to have a heart attack or stroke.”

Kevin Nealon’s Chickpea Tacos

1 small onion, chopped
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 celery stalk, chopped
1 green bell pepper, seeded and chopped
1 15-ounce can chickpeas, drained
3 – 5 tablespoons salsa
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon chili powder
1 dash cayenne pepper, or to taste
8 – 10 taco shells

In large saute pan, heat oil over medium heat.

Cook onion, celery, and green pepper until softened. Add chickpeas, salsa, cumin, and chili powder. Stir and cook until warmed. Mash chickpeas slightly with a fork for better texture.

Fill shells evenly with mixture from saute pan. If desired, top with any of the following: chopped tomatoes, shredded soy or rice cheese, low-fat guacamole, shredded lettuce, hot sauce, or salsa.

Stella McCartney Not Into Furry Breasts At All

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, August 12th, 2008 in Fashion, Fur.

British Fashion Awards - Arrivals

She may be smiling here, but that wasn’t case when she saw a very offensive ad containing one of her designer bras.

Stella McCartney, designer of vegan fashion and daughter of Beatles great Sir Paul McCartney, was absolutely horrified to see an ad for Hockley with a model wearing one of her bras and a mink coat.

Strict vegetarian just like dear old dad, she designs cruelty free clothing and is also helping with the revitalization of her late mother, Linda McCartney’s food line.

Stella was obviously furious.

“It goes against everything I stand for,” she told a source.

A little bit of anger and a little bit of threatening with legal action resulted in the ad being pulled.

And who wears their bra showing underneath their coat anyway? Sigh…

Menu On Don Imus Ranch Strictly Vegan

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, August 12th, 2008 in Radio Hosts.

Radio Host Don Imus usually makes headlines for something less than pleasant, or at least that’s what it seems like in the past year or two. As we stated before, we will continue to focus on the positive things some bad boy (or bad girl) celebrity is doing.

Located near Ribera, New Mexico, the Imus Ranch, is designed to give the American cowboy experience to children with cancer or blood disorders or have lost a sibling to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.

The Ranch serves a strict vegan diet to its little cowboys/cowgirls, and uses cleaning agents that are biodegradeable, non-toxic, and derived from natural sources. The landscaping is also maintained in the absense of pesticides. Don and his wife, Deirdre, are also both vegetarians.

On September 16th, 2008, The Imus Ranch Record will be released featuring artists such as Stevie Nicks, Patty Loveless, and Dwight Yoakam. Proceeds will benefit the ranch. The complete track list is as follows:

RZA Introduces His “RZA Veggie Burger”

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, August 12th, 2008 in Actors, Food & Drink, Male Musicians, Male Singers.

Premiere of Columbia Picture's

As promised, we like to bring you oldies but goodies. RZA is an actor, rapper, musician, and producer of the group Wu-Tang Clan. Born Robert Diggs, he uses an awful lot of other names such as Bobby Digital, Ruler Zig-Zag-Zig Allah, Bobby Steels, Rzarector, Abbott, and Prince Rakeem.

A year ago when he was touring in Europe, Time Out took a little time out to ask him questions about his veg lifestyle. He’s created his own veggie burger, the RZA Burger. With all the stars doing their own food lines lately, we’re wondering if the RZA burger can give Boca a run for their money. One catch though: The RZA burger is served on waffles!  While we’re not flocking to the stores to request them, maybe there will be a niche market somewhere.

You’re touring Europe right now with the Wu-Tang Clan. I know you keep a strict vegetarian diet—what are you eating over there?
The Grand Hyatt in Berlin definitely came strong with the spicy rigatoni. Berlin also had a good butternut-squash soup. In the old days it was terrible over here for a vegetarian. Nowadays they stepped their game up, yo. The whole Clan’s been saying it.

What’s a RZA burger?
A RZA burger is a veggie patty with a fried egg, cheese, lettuce, pickles and all that, smashed between two delicious waffles. Spread mustard and mayo on it with a little butter and put that shit together. Trust me, son, that shit needs to be in stores.

I’m sold. Do you bust out the grill on tour?
If I have my special tour bus ready by then, you may be able to get a burger. If I’m on the regular tour bus, then bong bong.

Bollywood’s Jiah Khan Trying To Be Vegetarian, Urges To Cut Glass Manja

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, August 12th, 2008 in Actresses, Bollywood.

Bollywood actress Jiah Khan is not a vegetarian, but has an interest in becoming one. Lately, she’s been teaming up with PETA to urge people in India not to fly kites with glass coated strings which cut birds while they’re in the sky. Apparently this is popular to do during kite flying festivals like Makar Sakranti and Independence.

Khan dressed up as a bird and held a kite that read “Cut out glass-coated manja, not wings.” Manja, of course, being the word for “string.”

Khan is a lover of animals, which may explain her desire to someday go veg, having both cats and dogs as pets.

Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee

Looks like he’s looking for the nearest McDonald’s arch. I bet if we could zoom in, we’d see saliva dribbling down his mouth.

Tommy Lee agreed to go vegetarian as an attempt to win back his ex wife and mother of his children, Pamela Anderson. The plan worked for awhile, but it seems as if his lusting for beef has caused him to be less than faithful to the veg lifestyle.

“There’s been two times now, where I’ve driven by In-N-Out (burger chain) and I’m like, `Pull the damn car over, I need a triple-triple (burger), dude,'” he said.

Dude, Pammy isn’t going to like that, you know?

We thought he’d at least be smart enough to keep his burger liaisons a secret versus blabbing it to some random reporter.

But what do we know? Perhaps they have a…ahem…open relationship.
