Paul McCartney Calls For “Meat-Free Mondays”

Written by Vegetarian Star on July 14th, 2008 in Male Singers.

Taco Tuesday, No-Cover Thursday, and… Meat-Free Monday?

Paul McCartney has suggested everyone stop eating meat one day a week to reduce carbon emission from the cattle industry.

He has been reported to tell his carnivore eating friends, “You realise you are eating dead flesh.”
According to The Telegraph Paul said cutting out meat one day a week is popular in Australia, where shoppers have become conscious of the environmental impact of cattle rearing and meat production.

In an interview with The Grocer, Paul said, “A lot of people go to the gym on a Monday.” Seems not eating meat would add an even more healthful spin to the day. “With meat-free Mondays, it’s a bit like going to the gym but with the added advantage of protecting the planet,” he added.

Paul turned vegetarian after a fishing trip, “Many years ago, I was fishing, and as I was reeling in the poor fish, I realised, ‘I am killing him — all for the passing pleasure it brings me’. And something inside me clicked. I realised as I watched him fight for breath that his life was as important to him as mine is to me”.

Although Domestic Diva Martha Stewart may be more famous, we’re more interested in what her vegetarian foodie daughter, Alexis, has to say and apparently others are too. She has a successful radio talk show on Sirius, called Whatever with Jennifer and Alexis.

Alexis has recently been in the news discussing her wishes to conceive a baby, but in the past she has been active with PETA and narrated the PETA Veggie Holiday Hotline. When callers called the 1-888-VEG-FOOD hotline, they would hear the following:

“Chances are, if you’re hosting the holiday feast this year, you’ll have at least one friend or family member who doesn’t eat meat. Whether for ethical or health reasons, millions of Americans have gone vegetarian, and it’s now easier than ever to keep veggie guests happy at holiday gatherings. To ensure your menu doesn’t ruffle anybody’s feathers, visit VegCooking.com for handy tips and tasty recipes. And for a free vegetarian starter kit, leave your name and address at the tone. Thanks, and happy holidays.”

According to the goveg website, Alexis has been veg since she was in high school and Mother Martha was always supportive. She’s not a big fan of fake meat, but prefers pastas, salads, and soup-carrot soup being her favorite.

Premiere Of Nokia Productions' Spike Lee Collaboration Film

Is she or isn’t she? Avril Lavigne has been labeled vegetarian by some sources, but there are conflicting stories.

She was in Peta’s poll of sexiest vegetarians in 2005 and 2006. But…

In the January 2003 issue of Seventeen magazine, she admitted to “snagging a bite of Matt’s cheeseburgers every now and again.” Also in a recent interview, she said she prefers not to eat meat, but will not say she’s a vegetarian “in case anyone caught her eating meat”.

Could it just be that she licked her last bones in 2003, then cleaned up her act in ’05 and ’06? Or does she have an on again/off again fling with the cow that changes faster than you can update your Myspace relationship status?

Although we may never know the truth, we do know that her “acting like she’s veg and she’s not makes us frustrated.”

Mother’s Milk is best, but soy milk may be good as well.

Vegetarian and Red Hot Chili Pepper band member, Anthony Kiedis, was voted one of Peta’s sexiest in 2008, along with his female counterpart, Leona Lewis.

Kiedis beat other notable veg celebrity males such as Casey Affleck, Rikki Rockett, and Tobey Maguire.

His son’s doctor recommended a vegan diet for mini-Anthony, and after learning of the problems with fish depletion, Kiedis decided to go it like father like son.

“Soon after I [went vegan] I saw some documentary footage of what happens in the factory farming of cows …. It sealed the deal,” says Kiedis.

Lokah Music Presents The Release Of

Hip Hop mogul Russell Simmons is an outspoken vegan who was once quoted as saying, “I don’t eat anything that runs away from me,” to describe his diet.

His name was dropped by a chef at “Nick and Toni’s” Restaurant in East Hampton, NY. The restaurant is celebrating its 20th birthday and Chef Joseph Realmuto spoke with the New York Times regarding sometimes difficult customers. “The celebrities are not the fussy ones,” Realmuto said. “It’s the others, who want to feel like celebrities, who are the fussy ones.”

The article then said that Realmuto does make “special vegan risotto for Simmons”.

Fussy? So that’s what they think of us when we demand a list of ingredients and what surfaces things are cooked on, and a million other questions about the orgins of “natural flavors.”

VegetarianStar thinks all vegs in NY and across the nation should go to Nick and Toni’s and every other restaurant and start acting like a celebrity.

Pamela Cuts Off Beak That Feeds Her

Written by Vegetarian Star on July 10th, 2008 in Actresses.

Pamela Anderson Press Conference

Pamela Anderson may have made a pact with the Colonel Sanders devil after all. She has been making headlines lately, both for calling Jessica Simpson a “wh*#e” for wearing a T-shirt sporting, “Real Girls Eat Meat,” and been involved in speaking out against the treatment of chickens by KFC.

However, it seems she is biting the hand, or shall we say, beak, that feeds her.

Her Big Brother Australia TV stint was apparently funded partially by KFC. She claims to have had no knowledge of the sponsor, but admitted it was big money and an offer that was hard to turn down.

“That’s a weird coincidence … I didn’t know KFC had anything to do with the show,” she said.

“Every show has a bunch of sponsors, it’s not something you would even look into when you’re offered a job.”

Could she have suffered a “blind spot,” thus being prevented her from “looking into” the sponsors after being offered such a large sum? Or did Pammy simply forget to do her homework? You decide.
