Mario Batali has announced that he supports Meatless Mondays!
The chef who has given hints during interviews that people should focus more on plant based foods instead of meats, will have all of his 14 restaurants adhere to the veggie holiday as well.
Every Monday, there will be at least 2 vegetarian dishes served, such as pasta or pizza.
In addition, many of the restaurants will designate the items as Meatless Mondays options, with Mario’s “MM” logo.
“The fact is, most people in the U.S. eat way more meat than is good for them or the planet,” maintains Batali.
“Asking everyone to go vegetarian or vegan isn’t a realistic or attainable goal. But we can focus on a more plant-based diet. That’s why I’m such a big believer in the Meatless Monday movement!”

Stephanie Pratt is the cover girl for PETA’s new iphone application, Be Nice To Bunnies, that allows you to search for products and companies that do not test on animals.
Besides animal testing, Pratt is also campaigning for pet adoption and wants puppy mills wiped off the face of the Earth.
And it bothers her that she can’t make the jump to being a vegetarian.
“No, it really kills me. I was actually talking about this at dinner last night with people,” Pratt told Pr.com. “I do want to make it clear that I love fashion and I love wearing faux fur, but I will never wear real fur. Any fur I’m wearing, it’s fake.”
Maybe Pratt should get her feet wet with Meatless Mondays, as at least eating less meat will reduce her guilt and carbon footprint.

Lea Michele recently interviewed with Popeater when she was asked if she’d every go, “full PETA.”
After the interviewer had to explain he wanted a naked Rachel Berry protesting against fur, Michele had this to say about getting naked for the cause.
Basically, she feels she can be effective in telling people to wear their own skins without showing much of hers.
“I think that you can get the word out there without a huge billboard of taking your clothes off,” Michele said.
But she hasn’t ruled it out for the future.
“I got a couple of years ahead of me to do stuff like that.”

Mario Batali says the next big “it” trend in food will be vegetables.
The chef who was previously known for his meats and grease has lightened both his physical load and recipe collection, with his latest cookbook, Molto Gusto, featuring more vegetarian meals he now is more likely to incorporate into his diet after losing 35-40 pounds.
Besides making vegetables the focus of the meal, Batali says people will be eating with principles.
“I think the next big thing in people’s mind is actually eating with a point of view, eating with an ideology,” Batali told Seattle Times. “It is all the things that we should be thinking about but we never had to because we are in the richest country in the world of all time. Now thinking maybe about spending a bit more for an heirloom varietal. Or a specific type of grown thing [that is] completely fertilizer-free.”

The Benedictine Women of Wisconsin are living in the greenest building in America after the ecumenical order’s new Holy Wisdom Monastery received the U.S. Green Building Council’s highest ever rating for sustainable construction.
Now, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is asking the sisters to take reducing their carbon footprint even further by serving vegan meals at the monastery.
Hopefully, the sisters have forgotten about that naked Joanna Krupa and the cross ad for pet adoption that angered the Catholic League.
What’s cool is that the sisters should also know adopting such a diet may not have adverse affects on their bone health, according to a study discussed in Science Daily.
The study, published in Osteoporosis International, found the bone densities of 105 vegan post menopausal women who were Buddhists nuns were identical to non vegetarians despite their calcium intake being lower.
Of course, calcium can be easily supplemented by consuming soy or almond milk, orange juice with calcium or calcium rich vegetable foods like kale.
But more factors than calcium play a role in bone health, such as magnesium, present in green vegetables.

Scarlett Johansson has a favorite vegetarian pizza, at least that’s what MyFox8 is reporting.
There are no quotes from Johansson about the pizza or any notes as to whether or not she developed the recipe, but she did tell People in 2006 that her “favorite indulgence is a slice of veggie pizza and a Diet Coke or a wedge of homemade key lime pie,” so the gossip sounds good.

Comments Off on Martin Shaw Petitions Against Vegetarian St. Ann’s Well Cafe Closing
Martin Shaw, who plays Judge John Deed on the British television show with the same title, has signed a petition to save the St. Ann’s Well Cafe in Malvern Hills.
According to the BBC News, the Malvern Hill Conservators want to evict the manager, and another source says the place will be turned into a tourist information center.
The manager of St. Ann’s said of Shaw, “He said he’d found it a tranquil place and was lovely for him to get to when he is at the town theatre.”
More than 6,000 people have signed a Facebook petition asking the cafe to remain open.
When you live in an area where there aren’t too many vegetarian restaurants to begin with, it’s always pains to see a good place close.

Mercola goes into detail about the advantages of synthetic and the disadvantages of leather from a quality perspective.
Real leather is often cut unevenly and requires the purchase of a more expensive model for a decent strap, while synthetic is cut uniformly, making it easier to work with and doesn’t turn brittle.
