“Seal hunting is one of the most atrocious and inhumane acts against animals allowed by any government. Canada is allowing the slaughter of a record number of seals in their 2011 hunting season, which is going on right now. The seals are often younger than 3 months old. This has to stop. To my friends and fans in Canada: please help put a stop to this.”

Ellen DeGeneres, on a post to her show’s website, calling for fans to donate to help end the seal hunt. This year, the Canadian government has set a quota for 468,200 seals that can be killed.

Bob Barker Establishes Animal Law Program At Community College

Bob Barker has once again contributed to using higher education to educate on animal welfare by establishing a fund at one community college for students to study animal law.

Barker donated $100,000 to Hudson Valley Community College Foundation to create the Bob Barker Animal Advocacy Fund, which will be used to set up courses in animal law.

The awards ceremony will be held in San Diego, California on April 30, 2011. DeGeneres is the co-owner of Halo Pet Food, a natural line of food for animals containing only human-grade ingredients. Last year, Halo partnered with several non-profit organizations like Freekibble, The Humane Society of the US, ASPCA, Pets for Patriots, and The National Canine Cancer Foundation to donate 1 million pet meals to over 100 shelters across the United States.
