Norman Reedus

Norman Reedus, actor from films like The Walking Dead and The Boondock Saints has joined with Cruelty-Free International in the fight against animal tested cosmetics.

Both Reedus and the organization would like to ban animal testing on beauty products in the United States and the rest of the world.

“Scores of countries around the world are beating the U.S. to become cruelty-free by banning cosmetics tests on animals,” Reedus said. “Nobody wants rabbits or guinea-pigs to suffer for our vanity, least of all the animals. Let’s stop their suffering right here, right now. Join me in supporting the Cruelty Free International call to Congress and the FDA to bring an end to animal testing for cosmetics in the U.S.”

March 11 marked the start of Be Cruelty-Free Week, a celebration of the European Union’s decision to ban the marketing and sale of cosmetics newly tested on animals.

Several celebrities have voiced their approval of the ban, and have signed the Humane Society of the United States and the Human Society International Be Cruelty-Free Pledge.

Award winning singer-songwriter and vegetarian Colbie Caillat said:

“Everyone wants to look their best. And it’s great to know we can look and feel beautiful without causing pain to animals. The HSUS/HSI’s Be Cruelty-Free campaign is urging companies to stop testing their products on animals. There are so many great products, from skin care products, to shampoo, to makeup, that are cruelty free–there’s just no reason to buy anything else.”
