John Salley Makes A Mean Root Beer With An Avocado Sandwich

While we’re still waiting for John Salley‘s natural food line to come out, it’s still exciting to hear Spider Legs discuss his favorite meals he likes to whip up at home.
The NBA legend is a fan of vegan mayonnaise Vegenaise and enjoys smothering it on an avocado sandwich and washing the whole thing down with some homemade root beer.
“I do something like an avocado sandwich with Vegenaise, mustard, live sprouts, grape tomatoes and some toasted bread,” Salley told Tampa Bay. “I eat avocado almost every day. I may mix bananas, mangoes, papayas and blend it up.”
“I make my own soda. I used to love root beer, so I got involved with a guy and make natural root beer soda with purified water, natural flavoring and Xylitol (a natural sweetener). It tastes exactly like root beer.”
So is he saying his brew can stack up to some of the natural root beers like Steaz, Whole Foods Everyday 365, Blue Sky and Santa Cruz? Grist rates Whole Foods the best for its lack of high fructose corn syrup, low price and great taste.
Salley is one of the featured speakers at the Tampa Bay Veg Fest this Saturday, October 2nd, where he’ll discuss what a plant based diet has done for him.
