Vegetarian actress Natalie Portman has welcomed her first child with fiance Benjamin Millepied.

Now that her baby boy has arrived, those strange and pesky cravings she experienced during pregnancy have hopefully subsided.

So does this mean we’ll see a vegan Natalie again soon?

Portman has been a vegetarian for most of her life, but took her diet a step further a couple of years ago by going vegan. When she became pregnant, she experienced intense cravings for eggs and gave into them.

“I actually went back to being vegetarian when I became pregnant, just because I felt like I wanted that stuff,” Portman said.

“I was listening to my body to have eggs and dairy and that sort of stuff. I know there are people who do stay vegan, but I think you have to just be careful, watch your iron levels and your B12 levels and supplement those if there are things you might be low in your diet.”

The debate over adding animal products in the diet during pregnancy is one that’s been discussed too often on Vegetarian Star, so we won’t waste time making alternate suggestions for animal products that contain the same Vitamins and minerals or pointing out suggestions by formerly pregnant vegan moms that got them through 9 months without a steak sending them to rehab.

We’ll instead congratulate Portman on her new bundle of joy and look forward to reading what vegetarian meals baby Portman-Millepied loves to eat in the future.

Natalie Portman disappointed some of her vegan fans when she recently announced she had started eating eggs as a result of a craving and she felt her body was telling her to give in.

“I was listening to my body to have eggs,” Portman said. “If you’re not eating eggs, then you can’t have cookies or cake from regular bakeries, which can become a problem when that’s all you want to eat.”

However, studies recently published in the American Journal of Epidemiology tell a different story about what a woman needs during pregnancy and excessive egg consumption isn’t one of them.

Researchers found high intake of eggs and dietary cholesterol increased a woman’s risk of gestational diabetes, a condition when blood sugar levels rise abnormally only during pregnancy.

This risk increased with increasing egg intake.

Woman who ate seven or more eggs per week had a significantly greater risk for developing diabetes than women who ate less than seven per week.

That’s an egg every morning for breakfast. Not counting the egg and cholesterol products eaten in other meals as women with the highest dietary cholesterol intake were more likely to develop diabetes than those in the lower percentile.

“Our data suggest that higher egg and cholesterol consumption during the preconceptional and early pregnancy periods are associated with increased gestational diabetes risk among women without preexisting diabetes,” writes Qiu et al.

Could a woman’s body ever lie to her?

If it’s telling her to gobble up omelets, quiches and egg-filled pastries during pregnancy, she’d better give it a lie detector test–by filling it up with vegan versions of those cholesterol rich goodies instead.

Oh, say it ain’t so!

Natalie Portman has made the official announcement to the world that since she become pregnant, she’s dropped veganism from the starring role in her life.

Whether or not cravings mean your body really “needs” something is subjective, and some vegan moms have offered advice on how to control this or channel it into a taste for another vegan food.

But getting iron and B12 from the form of vegan supplements is as easy as dairy-free and egg-free pie, so there’s no excuse for stealing Chicken Little’s goodies.

But thing’s could be worst.

At least Natalie’s still a vegetarian.

Jennifer Gandia, the owner of Greenwich Jewelers in Tribeca told the New York Daily News about 6o%-70% of her clients come to her requesting rings made from recycled or reclaimed materials.

“The ring is a symbol of love and commitment and something that the bride will have forever,” Gandia said. “People don’t want this symbol to be connected with something that harms the earth or causes suffering or funds something illegal.”

Besides purchasing a ring made with recycled materials, there’s also the option of buying a secondhand ring from places like eBay, antique shops or pawn shops. When Benjamin Millepied went looking for an engagement ring for Natalie Portman, he wanted stones that reflected the actress’ values.

So he went to a designer that provided him with a band containing conflict-free stones, Jamie Wolf.

“Ben was exceptionally thoughtful and dedicated and patient to make sure we had everything right,” Wolf told InStyle. “We wanted everything about the ring to speak to things that are important to Natalie.”

Accordng to Instyle, the stone is an antique and the pave diamonds are certified as conflict-free, meaning they were sourced from an area that has been declared free from many human rights violations, including child labor and violence.
