Morrissey treated members of his band to a t-shirt from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals that protests marine parks that hold animals in captivity.

The 100% cotton shirt is made in the USA by American Apparel and is available from Cafe Press in several styles and colors for both men and women.

PETA has issued a statement on its thoughts of such caged animals like dolphins.

“The intelligent, social ocean animals at SeaWorld are forced to live out their lives in small tanks and are denied everything that is natural and important to them. Many of them die far short of their natural life expectancy. Despite the numerous tragedies that have occurred at SeaWorld theme parks and the threat that the parks pose to the safety of animals and even trainers, SeaWorld continues to turn a blind eye.”

“I think we have so much to learn from the animal kingdom. Instead, they are shot and gassed and farmed and eaten, and only humans do this to them! Animals don’t start wars or destroy the planet or create cancers or pollute or over-populate. Humans, by comparison, are a mess. You can also tell so much about a person by their treatment of animals. A woman in a fur-coat might as well carry a sign saying ‘I am an idiot.’ How women — and it’s usually women — can wear fur, whilst knowing how it’s manufactured, is absolutely bewildering to me. The human race is rarely humane.”

–Morrissey, during an interview discussing his views on vegetarianism and animal rights. The former member of The Smiths who sang “Meat Is Murder” has been vegetarian since age 11.

Morrissey was recently interviewed by the Daily Telegraph when the subject of Lady Gaga and her infamous meat dress came up.

Given the fact Morrissey is a highly opionated and a longterm vegetarian, it was expected he’d have a few criticisms for the Born This Way singer.

But instead of automatically issuing a few choice words about the singer’s decision to wear dead animal flesh, Morrissey took the opportunity to attempt to understand her motives behind wearing it.

“Well, the meat dress was first done by [artist] Linder Sterling in Manchester in 1982, and she did it as a protest at men seeing female flesh as meat. I don’t know whether that came across with Lady Gaga. I think people didn’t question it too deeply – they simply saw it as ‘today’s loony idea.’ But I like to assume that Gaga had the same notion. If it’s a social and political statement, it’s acceptable. If it isn’t a social and political statement, I don’t really see the point.”

The dress worn by Gaga to the MTV Video Music Awards has been snagged by the Cleveland Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and will be on display there.

“It’s the same thing, animals are like children, they look to us for protection. We should protect them. I really feel quite smug about mad cow disease and foot and mouth and so forth, and I just think ‘Well, what do you expect’? People have been saying it for years.”

–Morrissey,  in another statement that makes him famous for his outspokenness, comparing eating meat and child abuse. A 10-day music festival in Belgium has taken meat off the menu for the day Morrissey performs, and the “Meat is Murder” singer also recently asked a venue in Perth to do the same. Morrissey has been known to walk off the stage during a show because the smell of meat disgusted him.

Officials at a Belgium music festival have agreed to ban even a prized traditional horsemeat sandwiche popular with the locals at an event where vegetarian singer Morrissey will perform. In honor of the Meat is Murder singer, Lokerse Feesten has taken all meat off the menu on the day he takes the stage in August.

Instead, the festival will serve vegetarian items at the concession stands.

“The Lokerse Feesten have had their eye on Morrissey for a very long time,” organziers said about the change.

“For this edition we finally managed to get him over and we are very pleased about this.”

“Further to that, the addition of Morrissey to the line-up meant a welcomed catering challenge for one day. As more and more people are introducing veggie days in their diet, we considered one meatless-day out of 10 Lokerse Feesten days a healthy break for all. Our food stalls will be serving you an array of healthy vegetarian dishes.”

Morrissey isn’t the first vegetarian singer to bring changes to the food served at his concerts. Chrissie Hynde has requested on several occasions that meat not be served at her performances. Venues for her events instead offered concert goers items such as seitan sandwiches and Gardein products.

Three British stars are backing a campaign against all forms of hunting as a sport.

Ricky Gervais, Morrissey and Johnny Marr support the League Against Cruel Sports. The league is involved in bringing attention to a variety of hunting involving animals, including bullfighting, dog fighting, greyhound racing and the snaring of animals like foxes and rabbits.

The league is often involved with investigating illegal hunts, campaigning on the legislative level and running sanctuaries designed to protect wildlife in heavily hunted areas.

“Animals are not around just for people to abuse and kill in the name of so-called entertainment and sport, Gervais said. “It’s beyond belief that it actually happens and that certain deluded people get enjoyment from it. I support the League and its campaigns to try and stop cruel sports.”

Former member of The Smiths, Morrissey said: “The moral climate surely tells all intelligent people that the key to the extent of any person’s humanity is in their relationship to – and protection of – animals. People who hunt are under delusions of possession and property and divine right, and their debasement of human standards is always evident in their outrage at ever being questioned about their activities.”

“Sports which involve causing injury to animals are not only cruel but unnecessary and outdated,” said Marr. “I’m sure that given the opportunity then the majority of people would choose to outlaw it. I feel that those who think it’s ok to abuse animals for so called sport are ignorant.”

After being criticized, he’s says he’ll “wear fur again” and it’s all just a part of creative expression. Someone hit the ice with his head one time too many while practicing the double-dunce-klutz.

Sarah Palin kills caribou on TLC reality show, “Sarah Palin’s Alaska.” Someone who feeds her family potentially lead contaminated meat shouldn’t be criticizing Mrs. Obama’s initiatives to make school lunches healthier. In 2008, she gave an interview while Tom turkey got his head chopped off. In 2010, it’s Rudolph. Easter Bunny, dude, watch your back!

8. Angelina Jolie says secret beauty tip is steak. This is coming from an ex-vegan actress who was too lazy to do her research and learn to eat vegan properly, so she failed, went back to meat, and praised it for giving her that sexy “Salt” look. Would love to see what her heart looks like from all the salt in processed meats.

7. KT Tunstall is vegetarian–except for pig’s blood. Sure, some vegans will cheat and eat grandma’s butter cookies at Christmas. But KT Tunstall discussed in detail how scrumptious black pudding, a congealed “treat” made from pig’s blood, was even though she normally eats tofu and beans. “Suddenly we see” Twilight vegetarian vampire taking a whole new meaning.

6. Elle MacPherson says endangered rhino horn powder is her beauty secret. We don’t know what’s worse–this or Jolie’s return to steak. It’s a sadder day than ever for the rhinos that are being poached. So many in Hollywood get nose jobs. Just use their grounded up nostril parts, have a model with big boobs promote it in a sexy way, overcharge and soon MacPherson will be touting that as the best secret instead.

5. Matt & Nat former employee reveals she did it on the down low. A vegan handbag and accessory company has a vegetarian eating only at work policy. One woman snuck meat onto the premises regularly, then griped to the media about it. Should have instead thanked Matt (or Nat) she had a job and stuck a tofurky jerky stick in it.

4. Morrissey says the Chinese are subhuman. Bad, rude, racist, sexist or downright insensitive vegetarians make it difficult for us to win anybody even halfway over. Morrissey attacked China for the way it handles animals, offending and upsetting more than just Chinese people. But since Morrissey is good at verbal tirades, we can turn this around by rewarding the good instead of the bad. We therefore encourage him to attack every country for its animal transgressions–including the United States for its circuses and factory farms–and leave the individual races alone.

3. Donna Karan Brings Bunny Back. After promising to not use rabbit fur in her fashions, like a politician, Karan changed her policy. Activists attacked her Facebook page and called her a bunny butcher. Ha! She doesn’t have as many friends on social networking as she thinks. Lessons learned: Stop using fur. And check your Fan page wall often.

2. Janet Jackson signs Blackglama fur deal. A vegetarian/vegan who publicly discusses her love for seitan and vegan cookies also publicly wears fur. And gets paid promoting it. That’s just “Nasty.”

1. Lady Gaga wears a meat bikini and dress. The fashion statement that spawned a trend of ham dresses, faux meat necklaces and too much publicity for the “Pokerface” singer also spawned a community of maggots who got a free lunch off her smelly, dead flesh costume. Can’t eat her, can’t eat her, no we can’t eat her e.coli face.
